Agreed. Peats is the 2nd or 3rd best player in his position, which is a spine position, in the game. Even accounting for his poor injury record I think $600k is more than fair. We have plenty of cap space, a need in his position and he is one of the best hookers going around. The fact we have Kaysa sewn up and able to play big minutes if Peats does get injured reduces that risk.

Peats' defence is like having another excellent big body in the middle which many people are calling out for.
Like you've said we have the cap space, it's a spine position so paying that sort of money isn't overs and we have Kaysa who's a more then handy replacement, also allows him to ease into his role without playing 80 mins every week and getting buggered and also having Peats automatically improves your line speed in defence, his speed and first up contact last night on anybody and everybody was off the charts.

Can't cry over spilt milk l just think it's a missed opportunity.

Which other teams are in need of a hooker?

so then why do we need to pay him 600k? We just have to pay more than the GC? Is he going to play for nobody?

The following teams could do with a hooker:

Penrith
Manly
Newcastle
St George
Gold Coast
Nth Qld. (granville is off contract i believe)

Maybe he wants 600k to move away from the GC, why you asking me?

I guess those other teams don't have the cap space considering we are halfway through the year.

We are in need of a hooker and peats is the best one available.

On Peats, great game, two points of consideration, we've pulled our offer, that can't bode well for negotiations...and now that he is the incumbent SOO hooker thats three more games he is not available for next year. He corked his leg and is not likely to back up this weekend, so that'll be 4 games missed?

We have Kaysa who is no doubt a big part of our plans, I dont reckon we are after a hooker the status of Peats, at the right price we may have, now I guess we will be resting our hopes on Kaysa, and a suitable depth replacement.
Maybe we pulled it so we can offer him more money?

But yeah I agree with your 2nd paragraph. I reckon we said we're willing to pay X for Peats and Kaysa combined but Peats was asking for more than that. Not that we don't think Peats is worth that, but the Peats/Kaysa combo might not be worth paying Peats that much.

Last night's performance plus the Hayne decision will have impact from now on you'd have to imagine

I'd prefer Granville to peats, but cant see green and lancini not fronting up some sort of incentive....

I'm asking you because it was you who replied to my OP. My OP simply asked the question 'why do we have to pay him 600k?'. You responded that other clubs might not need a hooker etc. And you've rightly pointed out that other clubs may not have the cap space......

So, if the only people bidding for his services are us and the GC, and the GC offer him $500k, I see no reason why we have to meet his demand for 600k. Unless there's a credible threat that he won't play anywhere. What is he going to do if nobody meets his demand?

With the talk in the media the last couple
of days about the cursed number 7,
Why don't we name starting halfback as a forward in the number 7 and Moses can wear the 8 or 10.
We have plenty or forwards if they go down.
:joy:

You aren't factoring the amount it may cost him to move from the gc to Sydney. Let's assume he's bought a property in the gc, and he now requires to sell it and buy in Sydney. There'd be almost 100k turnaround just in legals, stamp duty and agent fees. So IMO, he'd be well within his rights to ask for $600k if in fact titans have tabled a 500k offer.

Let's not forget the cost of living in Sydney too.

He's within his rights to ask for anything. We don't have pay it.

Why is he 'required' to sell and buy in Sydney? Did he sell property in Sydney when he left the Eels? Does he own a place up at the GC? Is he banned from rental properties for shitting in someone's shoe.

The bloke has missed about 33% of the games for which he was eligible over the last 6 years (I might be lying though.....but I figure that he has played 109 of a possible 162 games).

You obviously missed where I wrote "let's assume". Maybe I should of capped it for you.

I don't think footy players would be advised to buy and sell properties just to live in. They would only buy investment properties and if they have to live away from them they would rent.

And who'd buy an investment property on the Gold Coast?

Who mentioned investment? I was talking principle place of residence.

Yeah, I doubt there's many players buying and living in properties based on where they are playing.... Especially young blokes... they'd all be renting. I don't think Mitch Moses, James Tedesco and Luke Brooks all got together and bought the house they share together....

So, your argument as to why we should pay $100k over the next best offer is based on pure speculation. And the speculation is unlikely to be true. However, it is fair to say that living costs matter. But really only the day-to-day / unavoidable living costs (given that we are talking about 2-3 year contracts). A player doesn't have to buy a new house every time he moves towns, though he might choose to do so if the market suits.
