I had mine done a few years back, and for the first 3 to 4 days/nights, it felt like someone was stabbing my knee constantly with sharp knives. It was painful!! Probably a week before it settled.

Everyone is different, some people can walk right out after their op, I had to use a wheelchair.

Just make sure you do your rehab when the time comes, it's crucial.

To answer your question in a roundabout way, I remember a story F1 driver Eddie Irvine told once.

He was in a bar in Monaco or somewhere swanky one time, and had told his manager and entourage to play down he was there and who he was... So he mingles for a bit on his own and was trying to tune this glamour but getting nowhere, she didn't want a bar of him. After about half an hour he goes up to his manager and says "Ah f**k it, go and tell her who I am and what I do" and before you know "it was all happening!" in his words.... $$'s my friend, that is the answer!
