My counter argument is that no matter how you dice it, King's stat (and those of the other three) isn't stopping them playing NRL at all - and in King's case, has no impact on his team's ability to threaten in attack or indeed win games. In order words, despite your denials you are cherry picking stats to support you pre-determined line of discussion.

Well if it's not going to get any more convincing, then it's not worth prompting you to provide more support for why that stat is "significant" or why King et all aren't doing "enough" - even though it's not stopping them playing first grade in winning teams.

Instead of fixating on a random stat, I would theorise that King hasn't played much first grade over the years due a combination of injuries, and not being the best option available (for whatever reason - coach's preference, dynamic between strengths of other players in the spine etc) at a particular club when he was fit. Simple, no dodgy use of stats required!
That's dribble.

Stats are used IN CONJUNCTION with other observations. NOT AS AN ALTERNATIVE!

Sure - but tell that to the person cherry picking stats and using them as the primary source of opinions, rather than in conjunction with observations of actual on field play!

Except it isn't from the point of view of the player missing the tackle. If you're going to miss a tackle you don't get to choose the outcome. You can only wish you had harder working, more desperate teammates pushing across to help clean up.
Well, I'm sure that players regret missed tackles that lead to tries a little bit more than a missed tackle down field that their mate cleans up... so what appears equal (in stats) are not the same same in practice, context or significance.

That's what you think but if you care to read all of that person's posts you'll find he makes just as many posts about observations of actual on field play as everyone else on here.

You can't see beyond your own preconceptions.

Shit if you didn't know better you'd think a fight is about to start where they're going to eat each other.

Wouldn't that all depend on your post per page setting. Is Barry skewing the stats to suit his point of view?

Sorry mate Cameron Smith isn't small. 186cm. nearly 6'1. Cameron Smith broke the mould from the traditional hooker. Small, stocky. Cameron Smith is tall, rangy. All class

Mate I'll eat my porridge if Smith is 186cm = 6.10236. What did they measure him wearing 3 inch spikes?

How are you going to observe a lack of defensive involvement? This is why we use stats.

Sure it is. Every missed tackle is unintentional. So if you're going to miss a tackle (and everyone does) you have no control over the consequence.

This is true but sometimes you miss a tackle but halt your opponent while others arm grab and the player running with the ball doesn't decelerate at all. Obviously statistically they are equal but ib reality they are not. If a centre misses a tackle close to the line its often worse then a forward missing one with 4 players around him in support. I.e defense is more important outwide one on one
