Apparently there are 5 spots opened up next year for developing players. Can someone who sees a lot of U20s suggest which 5 players they think should make the 5?

I don't see a lot of junior footy but judging on junior rep selections as well as how young they play certain grades and so on I tip:

Afualo
Brown (under 18 next year so mightn't require a spot)
Dresler
Kaufusi
Mahoney

BA said in the GF preview on Ch9 that the rookie spots have been allocated.

Agreed, madness giving away either of them.

Who are we going to get an overrated plodder like Jackson???

Yeh Ma'u averaged 115 metres per game for us this year. He does go through some flat patches I guess.

I think the main issue we have is balance in the pack . I can see why someone like @Avenger might see some value in bringing in a bigger backrower. Even our next cab off the rank (Niukore) seems to be a player in similar style to our existing edge forwards.

Are Melbourne really that much fitter than all other teams?
Amazing line speed for the entire 80 minutes even if they did jump the gun.
Amazing strength to turn virtually every tackled player on their back or facing back against the direction he came.
Amazing resiliance to fight in every tackle to land on his front facing forward and maintain the energy to play the ball very quickly.
These traits arent for just periods of the game but virtually the entire 80 minutes guaranteeing an uptempo game that none could match.
A comment was made in the telecast that one player, I think it was Kafusi, took 12 months to cope with Melbournes training schedule. There was further comment from Cam 356 re the amount of time they were away from their families due to Belamys training schedule.
Even though we won 16 games we did tend to falter often in the second half making a comfortable first half followed by an error plagued second half.
The Cougar is gone. We definitely need an upgrade in this area. Fingers crossed we recognise how far Melbourne are ahead of the game in this area and look to emulate their deeds.

Despite quality across the field their advantage lies in the spine. Slater was involved on every play (unlike some fullbacks) and the Storm were usually able to read the defence and get the ball to wherever they had a mismatch. This leads to a lot of one-on-one tackles and quick play-the-balls. The fact they were the most penalised team in the NRL shows how much they hold down. They probably deserved to concede plenty more than that but referees are worried about looking bad when they blow too many penalties.

It is 100% about the wrestle, and ability to lay all over players for an extra half second.

Should I get my sarcasm detector checked Baz?

Nah, not sarcasm. I didn't say they were doing it within rules....just saying that they are real good at identifying exactly how far they can push a ref in particular parts of the field. On their line they don't bother....they just concede the penalty if pushed.....but this is not news.

Mau is easily dominated these days and does not make the impact that he used to. Tepai is now our premier second rower. I’d take someone like Ethan Lowe or Crichton before Mau.

Mau and Mannah have regressed the most this year.

Just my view.
