Panicking I reckon Poo. Not on the recruitment side of things but his reluctance to give a youngun even a sniff. it will eventually burn him I reckon. We chase Evans and more than likely other Props yet let Twal and Keppie are let go. Told ya before "Keppis a keeper". It flys in the face of sound cap management as you have so often correctly pointed out. Nobody is going to convince me that Evans isnt on 3 times Twal is on at The Tigpies. Early days I know but the form comparison aint goin well so far buddy.
Re recruitment rumours. Its well known that BA & Burnie dont discuss such matters with Journos and from the make up of our new board they probably think we play Union or AFL so I doubt they would be leaking anything. Maybe its Big Maxie?

Who said he was let go?

FFS this attitude shits me (I mean this as a general comment mind you) . What if Manly offered him a top 17 spot and 150k a season? Should we match that for a bloke on potential? Any time someone poaches one of our juniors it's all about how we "let them go"... It's not just a matter of saying "you're ours mate" and keeping these kids forever.

I rate Keppie and I rated Twal. But niether offer anything we don't have already, they're just younger

"Parramatta have gone cold on the idea of signing talented English prop Ryan Sutton.

Desperate for one more front-rower in their rotation, the Eels were considering Sutton, who wants to play in Australia and was given the green light to make a move by his club Wigan.

But after doing their homework on Sutton, the Eels now believe he isn’t up to the toughness of the engine room of the NRL on a weekly basis.

Their hunt for a quality front-rower continues, however."

And the club may be focusing on Stone and Niukore as our "rookie" forwards in our squad!!

We need to try and jag Paulo and do what Ricky did to us. Sign him for 2019 and then put pressure in him for an early release for 2018.

Soon he will be blaming everyone but himself and Paulo is sure to be on the shit list sooner or later.

Sure, if he's cheaper than what he is with Canberra and loses about 15kg...

Manly have landed one of Parramatta’s brightest young stars.

Market Watch can reveal the Sea Eagles have signed 20s gun Sean Keppie on a two-year-deal starting 2019 and while there’s been a lot of uncertainty around Manly’s salary cap, Keppie’s deal has been registered by the NRL.

An Australian Schoolboys representative, Keppie has been a standout in the 20s this season after a successful year in the NYC in 2017 where the Eels made the grand final.

Keppie will see out the remainder of this year with the Eels before joining the Sea Eagles’ top squad next year.

Kep is good, and the club wanted to keep him. He just was offered more money at Manly as well as a top 30 spot. He's stepped up his game this year playing very long minutes and I believe on the weekend he played the full 80 minutes whilst keeping his workrate high. It'll be a shame to lose him but he has a bit to work on before he's going to play first grade, he might play next year but it may be a bit premature. He should be ready for full time first grade in 2020 but by then he'll already be off-contract and could potentially sign elsewhere.

This idea that BA doesn't debut or play younger players is completely ignorant. Since he's been in charge full-time this is a list of players he's played under the age of 25: Corey Norman, Nathan Peats, Will Hopoate, Pauli Pauli, Tepai Moeroa, Bureta Faraimo, John Folau, Daniel Alvaro, Clint Gutherson, Bevan French, Nathan Brown, Kirisome Auva'a, Cameron King, Will Smith, Mitchell Moses, Nathan Davis. 15 players in 4 seasons and 3 games. It would've been hard for any coach to debut young players that we've brought through the system as our 20's the three years before had finished in the bottom 4, our reserve grade team wasn't any better also finishing in the bottom 4 the three years before BA became head coach.

Realistically how many more players should BA have debuted or played that were under the age of 25?

Well you found that list. How about a list of all the former Eels juniors & players since BA took over that have gone onto play for other clubs? I'll start you off... Nathan Peats, Will Hopoate, Pauli Pauli, Bureta Faraimo, Nathan Davis & Jarryd Hayne. Moses kinda as well

Didn't find the list, I compiled it myself looking at the official player number list and then going through rugby league project to confirm their ages. I was replying to the statement that BA doesn't play young players, not where they have gone since. Not sure how you could count Moses as he left in 2012 (before BA was full-time head coach), and then we signed him in 2017 and he hasn't left the club since.

Of those blokes, Norman, Peats, Hoppa, Gutherson, Brown, Auva'a, King and Moses had played first grade elsewhere when we signed them. Who claimed that he doesn't play young players?

The Keppie call is a really odd one, given the conceded lack of depth in our squad in that style of player.

Don't forget he debuted an older player too... someone who was already 25 but hadn't debuted that BA took on and debuted in 2015.

Manu Ma'u come on down.

Gazzamatta "but his reluctance to give a youngun even a sniff. it will eventually burn him I reckon". He has debuted as well as signed young players. There is no reluctance to get them into the team, they just have to be good enough.

Yeh, but if we don't hang on to them until they're good enough then he has at last a part of a point. I know you can't keep everyone.....the simple maths don't work out, but the Keppie one seems odd to me. It may prove to be a wise decision, I dunno.

Twal doesn't have Evans' running game, which is why we signed him. Keppie hasn't even played reserve grade and Manly offered him a top 30 spot? They are desperate to fill their top 30 with cheap players since the cap scandal. We are obviously not.

Stone and Mahoney are better players than Keppie and neither is in the top 30 (or weren't to start the year). We can't help clubs offering our players overs. Matching their offers means we are letting other clubs dictate the value of our players - a poor strategy.
