I might try and clear some things up with a Biblical perspective if I may. No I'm not asking anyone to convert or anything but there is a few gripes I have with the Christian community and western Christianity itself. The hell preachers we hear really started from the middle ages and it's become more of a western creation as such. Hell technically is separation from God for eternity and it' s our choice. If we go back to Gods original plan, heaven and earth were together, we were created in his image to love and worship him and to love each other. We told God to piss off and have been doing that since the dawn of time so there already is that separation. Won't go into too much theology here but hopefully can give a quick enough overview. So humans have separated from God but God throughout the Bible have slowly been reconciling us back to him where Jesus dies on the cross, paid for our sins and we 'choose' wether we want that relationship back or not. If we don't want God, then he won't force us to and your choice is respected and when you die you therefore will be in hell (sheol) meaning grave. So technically atheists are correct, you die then nothing but for those who want an eternal life, which I think is pretty cool, we have that gift. Again that's a whole other long theological discussion but just giving a brief explanation as best I can.
So Izzy maybe using hell in the way I do not like, the eternal torment fire and brimstone preaching which grinds my gears, but hey, I may be wrong in my theology as well and I know I am hated by many Christians for my view as well. So personally when I speak Jesus I do it because I'm like hey, eternal life is real cool and also for me my life has been transformed and have been saved by suicide and depression, life is great and that's all I want to share and I never want to scare someone of hell. Izzy should have handled it way better IMO but again, I may be wrong here.

Sorry for the religious talk, hoping it may explain some things somewhat and try not to flame too hard,.

A video that may help.

Peace

Khawaja is not going onto social media and saying that alcohol is bad and that consumers should get 80 lashes or get their hands cut off (which is what happens in some dry Islamic countries).
what re you on about and why didn't you answer the question instead of going on with this unrelated rubbish?

Paul Carige and the 98 Semi should of been enough, apparently not.

Realistically everything that's happened since that moment is entirely Paul Cariges fault.... He f**ked up so hard he split us into an alternate time line created from our failure itself.

No, just the definition of bigot has changed. Now people are labelled bigots if they share their religious views. Folau wasn't calling for action against homosexuals, he was stating a religious position on them, that they would go to an arguably imaginary place after they die. It is no different to saying blasphemers or infidels would go to hell. Certainly much different from saying they should be thrown from the tops of buildings, or beheaded. Christianity alone gave us a world where crimes against God were no longer considered crimes against the State.

It is more tolerant to the point where dangerous ideologies like Islamism and Communism are allowed to spread unchallenged. Meanwhile saying somebody will go to hell causes a bunch of atheists to piss their knickers.

From what you just said, you're the one needing nappies. We are discussing intolerance to gays. By suggesting that they will go to hell, it is a position by default that they are evil, sinful, vile and disgusting individuals in the eyes of the great Creator, therefore lessor beings and open to ridicule, taunts and even physical abuse by righteous amongst us.

No one has given a pass to the Communists and Islamist's for f**k sake. They are another topic. But what the hell, lets throw in the kitchen sink so we can win an argument Pou.

This is a simple example of passive intolerance. Not a hanging crime ffs. But it does shine a poor light on Folau. But like I said, I'm glade he did it. I think it is good that we know and that many members of the public show their displeasure of such bigotry from a public figure.

what would peoples thoughts be if Cricket Australia forced Khawaja to wear alcohol sponsorship?

The Qantas Wallabies are not asking Izzy to go in the Mardi Gras or to approve of gay marriage or homosexuality in general.

Just like how Cricket Australia is not asking a conscientious objector to alcohol to wear or endorse alcohol branding.

Izzy endorsed the view that homosexuals would go to hell unless they stop doing what they do and pray or something.

IMO it is as equally offensive as the merkin who said that the NZ earthquakes or Californian fires were Gods revenge on gays and abortion. You might as well wish that they all get hit by trucks.

Folau has every right afforded to him under the laws of our great country to say what he likes.

The public then has every right afforded to them/us to criticize him for those thoughts if we so please.

Period.

If anyone thinks that he wasn't trying to find traction and support for such thoughts by posting them publicly has rocks in their head. He knows he is Izzy Folau the mega footy Union star. He knows there are thousands out there who have similar views. He has been around long enough to know how little ones look up to him and he has a great influence on them. He wanted to express these thoughts knowing that others like him would agree and support this way of thinking.
It's their right to think that and share with the like-minded. That's the power of social media.
What I believe is that Folau and others who hold such beliefs are brain washed and are spreading hateful ideas and not caring about the knock on effect that those ideas have and do create for those who they single out as somehow wicked for something that they do in their bedrooms.
Heaps of wicked shit goes on in bedrooms, private or otherwise. But if you disagree it's wicked that's your business too. You should have the right to share the things you despise (like religion or certain sexual proclivities) without being sacked for it.
We are all flawed and for Folau to point out that one sector of the community will go to this place called Hell when they die because his good book says it will be so, and not think that he too under the laws/rules of that book, will most probably go to this Hell, is either absolute stupidity or the height of hubris. I mean you are damned if you eat shell fish in this freakin book and other such ridiculous things. So we are all going to hell.
It's a fair point, and one that the Falou's of the world need to be confronted with.
But saying all that I love when bigots say these things and I wish they all would come out and say whatever wonderful thought pop into their heads. I want to know who they are.

For example, El Dickface. He exposed who he is many times on here, especially when he posted pictures of intellectually handy caped people on here, making fun. Like I said, I want to know.
Damn straight. Unpopular ideas have a right to be aired. Nobody is hurt by generalised statements. But attacking an individual for sharing these beliefs is wrong.

Please refer to Law.com about how your boss can sack you for breaching the code of conduct on social media.

-----8<------

Depending on the nature of the comment, it is possible for an employer to fire an employee for comments made on social media. This includes Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, blogs, online forums and email. Whether or not an employer is entitled to fire you for comments on social media depends on a variety of circumstances including:

  • the nature of the comments made;
  • the intention behind publishing the comments;
  • when the comments were made;
  • who had access to view the comments;
  • the extent to which an individual or company is identified in the comment;
  • the provisions of any company code of conduct;
  • the provisions of any contract of employment; and
  • any company guidelines.
What sort of comments can get me fired?

Whilst Australian law recognises the freedom of information, opinion and expression, the Australian Constitution, unlike the American Constitution does not provide an unfettered right to freedom of speech. For example, pursuant to the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, it is unlawful to do an act that is likely to offend or insult a person or group because of their race or ethnicity. Accordingly, racist or sexist comments, or comments intended to incite violence or fear, may be considered unlawful and give rise to dismissal.

Nowadays, as social media becomes a significant and valuable instrument for businesses, most companies will often include social media clauses or guidelines in their contract of employment or code of conduct. Comments on social media that contravene any of these provisions may entitle an employer to fire an employee. These provisions are often paramount in considering whether an employer is entitled to fire an employee.

Whether or not a comment breaches company policies however will depend on the facts of the situation.

Examples of comments that have resulted in lawful dismissal include commentary that:
  • mocked or criticised company policies;
  • expressed strong political views;
  • failed to uphold the integrity or reputation of the company;
  • concerned an employer or employee of the company; or
  • insulted or threatened another employee.
The mere failure to remove commentary at the request of a company may provide sufficient grounds for dismissal.

Nonetheless, it appears that in order to terminate someone’s employment on the basis of social media comments, the comments must identify either the company or specific staff members. Comments that are vague or non-descript have been held to be insufficient grounds for dismissal.

What if I didn’t make the comments whilst at work?

Given the nature of the internet and the reliance that business places on social media, it is possible to be fired for comments made outside of work hours, or outside of the workplace. Social media obligations often fall within the scope of obligations that a company may place on its employees outside of working hours.

What if I only post my comments on private pages?

Firstly, there is no recognised right to privacy in Australian law. Accordingly, a Facebook page or Twitter feed only accessible by approved friends, or set to the maximum privacy settings, may be insufficient to prevent termination. Even anonymous blog posts have been the subject of lawful dismissals.

Speaking of Hell:

2 nuns were driving down the road when a vampire lands on the roof of the car. One nun says to the other, "Oh dear Lord what shall we do?"

The other nun says "I know, show him your cross!"

So the first nun rolls down the window and shouts "Get off the f**ken roof ya stupid c#nt!!"
