Exactly right. The fact that he chose to go to Gosford Races with his dodgy mates instead of going to an Eels community gig shows he he the opposite of a leader and his condition lead him to continually make poor decisions.

There is an entire leadership group, and the choice of on field captain isn't about which one is the best leader. It is about influence with the referees and token representational duties (pressers and so on).

No it just proves there's a better option as captain. If the player had no leadership he never would have been part of the leadership group to start with. Criminal associations and mental illness don't stop a person from being able to lead others. They just add unwanted risk to a player's contribution to a sporting organisation.
