Roosters flyer Blake Ferguson signs with Parramatta on three-year deal

Phil Rothfield, The Daily Telegraph

THE Parramatta Eels have signed former Blues State of Origin winger Blake Ferguson on a three-year deal to start next season.

Ferguson will quit the Roosters at the end of the season to sign a $1.5 million contract with the Eels, his fourth club in the NRL following stints at Cronulla, Canberra and the Roosters.

The Roosters star knocked back an offer from the Newcastle Knights to accept Parramatta’s offer.

He also had an approach from the Cronulla Sharks, who need to replace Newcastle bound Edrick Lee

He had been offered a one-year extension at the Roosters but wanted long-term security.

Ferguson has been off alcohol and gambling since going into rehab in the last off-season.

Yep.

Good signing on paper.

I'm leery of the dickhead factor but there's no doubt he's been better in recent times. If that continues he'll be an excellent signing. Although I am still concerned about his ability to have a brain snap.
My thoughts as well Baz, but come on mate we need to be positive :)

He's in his prime!

It's going to go one of several ways. He's going to kill it, he's going to trip over a blade of grass and do an ACL, he's going to be best buddies with Evans at Wenty, he gets shopped to the English comp or he makes a porno. I'm sure I've missed something.

His stats don’t show he is in decline, actually show he is in his prime !!

Average Metres per game
2016 - 126m
2017 - 145m
2018 - 198m
That will all amount to nothing once he dons the blue and gold and joins in with the rest of them.

Anyways his meters are great, just like G Jennings average meters are great, doesn't mean anything to me.

His a brain explosion waiting to happen literally every game, yes he has size and power but he is far from safe.

And just because some stats suggest his running more then he did does not mean he is not on the decline, if he wasn't do you really think the Roosters would have let him go? Seriously.

Why don't we ever sign players going into they're prime?
Recent signings (age in first year of contract):

2019
Ferguson (29)
Paulo (26)

2018
Evans (26)
Hayne (30)
Williams (30)

2017
Auva'a (25)
Brown (24)
Hoffman (29)
Gennings (24)
King (26)
Matagi (29)
Moses (23)
Fritchard (34)
Smith (25)
Vave (28)

2016
Foran (26)
Gutherson (22)
Mennings (28)
Robson (34)
Scott (32)

2015
Takairangi (26)
Wicks (30)

22 merkins, and exactly half of them are in their early to mid 20s.

So if I can name one player who left the Roosters and still played at a high level you'll concede your comment was ill conceived? Or do you want more than one? How many players leaving the Roosters and still playing good footy will prove to you that even the Roosters don't have unlimited TPAs? Even the best clubs like to replace expensive players with cheap ones sometimes.

Mennings was signed the year he got dropped from Origin not that I care as I think his been a great signing but again he certainly wasn't on the up, Scott was 32, Foran was a train wreck, Vave has been far from the form he showed at Manly, Fritchard was again another washed up one, Matagi has 1 good game every 4 weeks, T-Rex is again 30 years old, whilst he was good for us he didn't have much competition.

Now just because some of the ages shown here aren't too old whilst some definitely are too old, doesn't mean they are not past they're prime.

Mennings, Scott, Gordon (who you forgot), Foran, Vave, Fritchard, Hoffman, Williams, Hayne have all seen much better days whether you wanna believe it or not.

I am even not being harsh on people like Matagi and Evans for example who just simply have never been on the up.

What my point is washed up or not, the standard of good signings and bad signings are few and far between and this doesn't fill me with any confidence.

Let's be honest, who wears the blue and gold and kicks on for years and years.

Brown is maybe the only one, but its sucked up many of the current players whole this year and they to have gone backwards.

Great signing.

Seems to finally have his off field issues sorted and it is showing on the field.

Is the top performer in the NRL in the key areas we have lacked since losing Semi.

The negative ruckus this is causing just further emphasises how negative and whining our fans are in general. Would still complain if we won 3 straight premierships but the hot chips were cold at the kiosk..

What's your point?

If the Roosters wanted to keep Fergo they would have.

Just like they went and signed Teddy and now Crichton, players who have years and years in them at the top level, in the elite level.

When was the last time we signed someone like that?

Last time I checked none of them are rep level players or elite.

Moses, Brown and Gutho could reach that level but they have all struggled this year, big time.

How can Mahoney be mentioned? His played 2 games FFS!
