Year five is a pretty good indicator, but complicating this is the fact that year four is also a good indicator of coaching quality. And this is where you simpletons show why you shouldn’t be conducting the review. You can’t look at 2018 in isolation.

You seriously think th 2014 team (one which was over the cap) wasn’t good enough to make the finals? That team had Hayne, Radradra, Tonga, Hopoate, Norman, Sandow, Peats, Paulo, Mannah, Gower, Edwards, Mau’u. More than enough quality to make the 8 that year.

You should look at what a player brings to the team wholistically rather than focus on one aspect. Maloney is always up there when it comes to most missed tackles but he’s the NSW origin half (and I don’t believe they would have won the series without him). Sandow was great that season as well. In fact I’d say that was the last season where the team actually looked like they knew what they were doing in attack. Ever since then we have looked extremely impotent (even in 2016 when we were comfortably top 4).

What are your thoughts on Moses?

I know he must be down on confidence, but is he performing his role, do you think?

I think he's a talent, no doubt about it - but he doesn't seem to be creating chances, and seems more concerned about those no-look passes to an inside runner, rather than trying to create chances.

But I wonder whether I am being way too harsh on the kid.

2014 Ive said heaps of times BA had two big games to prepare us. Two fails.
2017 we almost blew the top 4 with a shit performance against Knights. Top 4 teams get the job done no matter what.

I also feel his signings and re signings of players have been a little short sighted.

Scott,Watmough,Frank,Hoffman for example. Throw in some bad moves for Evans amongst others and followed extensions of guys like W.Smith, Taka.
My issue with Taka isnt his quality but more the quality in 2nd row. I'm left scratching head in this spot. Taka,Manu,KE,Tepai. All first graders but none real high quality. Yet is there room if all fit it means a 250k+ player is in reserves.And none who can bust the line.
The squads deep but to many guys if all fit in NSW cup costing too much and that means less quality in starting 17.

Dont get me wrong BA seems a champion bloke and done a lot of good things.And lets face it the Cowboys have a better squad and Green was haiked a super coach. But 3 wins all year is a bitter pill to swallow.
I would of loved us to win 7 games end of year and regain faith.
And we perhaps should of won the last 2 but I feel like you cant be unlucky all season.

You should look at what a player brings to the team wholistically rather than focus on one aspect.

You also need to look at their strengths and weaknesses separately, otherwise you could be fooled into thinking Sandow (great attacker, poor defender) was an average NRL player.

It's not just missed tackles. Maloney puts his body on the line and often misses tackles in front of his team mates where the attack is disrupted and his mates can clean up. Sandow missed his tackles while trying to hide, so when he did miss it often led to a linebreak. Maloney also provides leadership, so he has played in better teams than Sandow, owing to the fact he improves the players around him.

In eight seasons, Sandow's team were bottom four in points conceded seven times. The other time they were bottom five. We went from 573 points conceded in 2015 (with Sandow) to 443 in 2016 without him.
