Getting the ball more often means getting it closer to the ruck, where the defence is tightest. Out wide there is more space but less ball. It's a trade-off. But more is expected of fullbacks and halves (even the ones wearing 6) than just the ability to beat defenders. If you have a back whose main role is to take on the defence you stick him at wing or centre. Whenever Hayne is passing before the line or kicking he is being wasted.

They were on a path to greatness before they arrived in Melbourne. Cronk is the possible exception but with his work ethic he would have prospered anywhere.
