Cap reallocation would effect future years as well, even if you sign everyone to 1 year contracts. I don't know if it'd be a benefit or not, there's many many moving parts. In ideal scenario, I probably agree with you (lot would depend on how much Lamb/Norman getting paid, who we could get for difference, etc) but really it'll will depend on how much Norman wants to play effectively for himselfWith Brown already moving into ISP, I’d be hoping that he is ready for 1st grade towards the end of next year/start of 2020. That would mean a 1 year contract for Lamb. Is it really worth punting Norman a year early then as the reallocated cap space is only going to benefit us for 1 year? I say it isn’t.
I’d be looking to bring back Robbo for a season than giving Lamb a start.
Geez if we don't get a better no.9 stat we are in big trouble. Can't see BA getting a new contract either. Our spine isn’t looking great next year if we turf Norman. It’s young and has a bit of potential but at this stage, that’s all it is:
1. Gutho or French
6. Salmon, Brown, Smith or new signing
7. Moses
9. Kaysa or Mahoney
There won’t be too many clubs with a worse spine than that.
Even if he is ready for 2020, a decent back up wouId be good. It’s a big task expecting a 20 year old to play a full year of NRL, physically and mentally.
Lamb could be dropped if Brown is ready.
Well then we don’t need to rush into making a decision now as to who our back-up half will be for 2020. We have Norman contracted for next year and I dare say Brown will learn a hell of a lot more playing understudy to a halves combination of Moses and Norman rather than Moses and Lamb.Even if he is ready for 2020, a decent back up wouId be good. Who's he play for?Tyrone may
I really worry about the people in charge of recruitment if they are even thinking about him.No one has said we should sign him!! We are just talking about the rumour.
Additionally my point was he is young enough to kick on big time as shown by what a few other halves have done with some experience (hunt, Maloney green etc etc).
I havent seen him play enough to really know how good or bad he may be. But he did play good against us last year.
There is a significant difference in the quality off contract at the end of next year compared to what’s left for next season. If we punt Norman we need to spend money elsewhere. Sure, we could frontload and extend but who do we have coming off contract next year that you would be prepared to do that for?Cap reallocation would effect future years as well, even if you sign everyone to 1 year contracts. I think we need another fullback, 5/8 (if Norman is gone) and hooker (with Kaysa and Mahoney fighting out for the 14.)Geez if we don't get a better no.9 stat we are in big trouble. Can't see BA getting a new contract either.

It's why I would have been ok with Austin. Not ecstatic but ok. The problem is there aren't any experienced halves off contract, unless Thurston wants to come back to SydneyI really worry about the people in charge of recruitment if they are even thinking about him.
84 Baby is right we have young talent like Salmon and Brown we don’t need another young maybe in the squad on top 30 money. If Norman is getting the arse we need someone with experience capable of helping out Moses.

Yeah I could as well but he’s currently unsigned so left him out.I could live with our fullback or 5/8 option if Hayne took one of those spots. But until we get a good 9 we will continue to be below average no matter who plays where
Well then why are we even considering getting rid of the one we have contracted? It's why I would have been ok with Austin. Not ecstatic but ok. The problem is there aren't any experienced halves off contract, unless Thurston wants to come back to Sydney

Knowing our luck we’ll punt Norman, sign Lamb and Manly will decide not to release Tapau. We’ll also end up with Kaysa and Reed as our hooking options. Too many variables in my opinion that could go wrong.Obviously we do not know all the details, putting a squad to together is pretty complex.
What wouId you say if this is the scenario, Norman is going, BA is negotiating with a very good forward like Taupau but he realises he needs another half with NRL experience but can’t afford another in the Norman price if we sign Taupau. Plus we need to increase our offer slightly for Taupau.
Lamb is then offered to the eels for a very decent price. BA thinks lamb is an ok option for 2 years (but not the perfect option but Taupau will offset any negatives ) as he thinks he can get some good improvement in him. It also gives him time to ease Brown / salmon into the NRL.
So we sign Lamb and now have the cash for Taupau.
It also frees up some cash having a cheaper half option to spend on a hooker.
There are so many variables to consider.

Better off keeping Norman and making big plays in the 2020 market by not re-signing him at the end of his contract.

Well if we were going to frontload players with Norman's money it'd be players coming off contract for next year including Alvaro, Gunco, Mau, Tepai, Mannah, Moses and anyone we sign for 1 year. Depending on NRL allowance and player acceptance, they don't even have to be top 17 players to be off assistance to overall cap i.e. you could give Mannah handout next season and then have him on books for min wage for couple of years after that. The problem is as you say suitable replacement for NormanThere is a significant difference in the quality off contract at the end of next year compared to what’s left for next season.
