Rapana schooled him a couple of times. Great offensively but defensively he never really came to terms with BAs famous compressed defensive tacticd.

I actually thought he was pretty good with the compressed defence, yeah there was a couple times he was found out (which can happen with a compressed defence) and which look absolutely terrible in replays (but it happens) but overall when he did push up out of the line he got the opposite player most of the time or the centre covered his position.

A compressed defence relies massively on the centre / winger pushing out of the line and making the one on one tackle - but sometimes in fails but it’s the risk taken with being fair strong in the middle.

He certainly did it better than French did last week.

Sivo played at Shotabloke in Group 9....before Penrith picked him up..Big difference scoring tries in Ron Massey Cup than NRL....

French can tackle old school style around waist down, but for a compressed defence the “ball and all” tackle is required (to stop the offload so they can’t take advantage of the overlap) and French is just not strong enough to do that consistently in a compressed defence.
It's a big part of why he's a fullback and not a winger.

He was averaging 116m a game in his first year of ISP last year. In his past 7 games he's averaged 132m, he was injured in round 1 didn't return until round 10 and seemed to take 3 rounds to get back into it. Also in his past 7 games he's made 41 tackle breaks.

Pretty good stats from someone who's only just started playing. Also we've seen recently players debuting at later ages, Cody Walker (26), Matt Eisenhuth (25), Ma'u (26). Also Damian Cook wasn't a regular first grade player until this year.

As for Maika Sivo, he reminds me of the way Semi used to put out his arm to defenders and they couldn't get a hold of it and then he would just push off them and break free. Same style in that regard.

Definitely worth a shot to see what he's got.

I dont see GL as a first grade player ever. His powerull runs in 20s will be not kuch in nrl and his a midget who comes with heaps of deficiencies.
Dressler had big wraps too. History however shows that if can get 2 or 3 nrl players from an age group it is above average. Granted this is perhaps 3 or 4 ages it does seema high amount . But deff possible
Its reported we've signed Maika Sivo from Penrith, a Semi-esque player if ever there was one. Big, fast and elusive and a good signing so GL won't be playing next year unless thru injuries.
