Rumours and Stuff

It’s interesting that we get compared to the panthers a fair bit by some as being a great example of how a club should be run. Yet look at their results under the great Gus Gould since he took over in 2011:

2010 - 2
2011 - 12 (Gus appointed)
2012 - 15
2013 - 10
2014 - 4
2015 - 11
2016 - 6
2017 - 7
2018 - 5

Gee don’t the first 5 years under Gus look very similar to what we have achieved under BA?

Yet Gus had total control over the whole club and the resources to do what we wanted. He also took over a club that had finished 2nd the year before.

Yet BA took over a side that had won 2 wooden spoons and had the great 2016 disaster (he had no board, CEO, HOF etc etc etc) which Gus never had to do deal with. Was 2016 BA’s fault?

Yes Panthers did change coaches for 2016, but Gus did have 5 years to get the club into shape - has BA had that opportunity? How many CEO’s have been place while BA has been here? Does he have a nsw cup side? HOF?What resources did he have over those 5 years compared to the panthers?

Just shows it takes time and a lot of Resources to rebuild a club even if the boss has the full backing and the resources to turn a club around.

Also Gus also had his fair share of not so great signings (to get experience) and fringe player signings to get the club to where they are now (just to name a few rein, Soward, hiku, idris, matagi, Newton, Manu, Walsh, Naiqama, kite etc etc released Soward, Moylan, Lewis and Jennings etc etc. big signings like Merrin and Tamou going ok but not great both were current origin players before going to panthers neither have played origin since ). Sounds similar to us?

So while BA may fail in the 2019, it just shows it takes more then just changing a coach to turn a club around.

Also I havent looked, but was around 2015/2016 the time the panthers started blooding a lot of promising juniors? If so it probably reflects what we have done this year - when was the last time we debuted so many players in the NRL and NSW cup?

Soward got them to a game before GF.He imo was good for Panthers
Was Walsh,Naiqama, kite,Manu,Matagi,Newtown BIG signings? Id argue same as say Hoffman type.
Tamou and Merrin yes. And both playing quite well.Maybe a little less then what expect but hardly busts.

And yes he cut lewis and MJ when come cause on overs.
Moylan and Cartwright he released due to personal reasons.

Look at signings
Peachey,Maloney, Kikau,
The rest are pretty much all Juniors along with Tamou and Merrin.

It should be, but it rarely is.

If you are in charge of a club that is underperforming on an off the field and sponsors and fans are demanding improvement it is much easier to sack a coach than it is to restructure and improve your administration.

The coach can often be a convenient scapegoat for deep seated problems that go way beyond what happens on the field. Its why there is a constant merry go round of coaches at underperforming clubs.

Agreed. But - the BEST way to make improvements is to get players into the club that can do the job - but that seems to be way too hard financially and logistically.

He’s been here for 5 years and picked up his first spoon. At what point do we say enough is enough? We’ve giving him free reign to sign several players for next year and beyond, yet he’s not guaranteed to being here in 2020. If we sign a new coach for 2020 we’ll need to give him time too, to acquire his own team. We’ll be risking starting the old cycle again. Some of the $$$ he’s paid for players have been ridiculous, and we wonder why we picked up the spoon.
Yes and the latest rumour is Liam Knight heading our way. Wtf! Raiders lost 2 front rowers and he is not even on their radar!!!! Another BA dud signing if happens which new coach will have to handle once he comes in.

No. It’s on par with 2013. This season is one of the worst many fans have had to endure. We’ve still got players on our books we’re looking to offload, players being paid mega $$$, picked up a spoon and playing some really boring and dumb footy.

Glad you’re able to take out positives from this year
No Pou is able to take positives from this year. After all it is all up next year as we can't go any lower, according to him. In 5 years BA has taken us from spoon to spoon, his time is done regardless of what he achieves next year imo.

Unless he signs a 1 year deal like he has done with a fair few of that level of player...
