Funny how jobs are given to the boys that won nothing whilst the premiership winners are basically not welcome at the club
Which ones aren't welcome at the club these days?

And realistically, who from our premiership winning team(s) would you give a coaching or assistant coaching role to in these days of professional rugby league? Our former premiership winners were all part-time footballers and would struggle to get their heads around full-time players and daily training, etc.

Besides, haven't Cronin, Hilditch, Grothe and Kenny all had some level of coaching gig at the club since retiring and none of them set the world on fire (EGS came close apparently) but I may be wrong.

I’m not talking about coaching. Im talking about being involved at board level (Steve Sharp aside). You cannot tell me that the people on the board now have any idea when it comes to a footballling decision making sense. If they do please tell me.

Bernie Gurr has been a monumental fail and the way the board headed by Max Donnelly delivered another spoon is simply unforgivable.

Well that sort of contradicts your post then:

Which boys are or have been on the board are part of teams that have won nothing?

Additionally how is Gurr / Donnelly anyway related to your original post? They have never played for the eels.

So it’s got nothing to do with past players either premiership winners or not, just that our board isn’t good enough?

I don't want to get into an argument and at the same time, I am not blindly defending our current Board however I think while you were on your sabbatical, we kind of discussed the make up of our Board vs most other clubs Boards and found that only a small number of clubs had more than 1 ex-footy player on them and those were not yet proven to be successful (aka. Bulldogs).

Interestingly, Max's Board follows pretty closely to the guidelines regarding Board member competencies outlined in this recommendation from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

The one weakness we possibly have in the Board is as you have implied, industry knowledge (i.e knowledge of football). However Penrith have only Greg Alexander, the Roosters have only Luke Ricketson, the Raider have no one, and we have been trying unsuccessfully for years to get Sterling to be on our Board. Although never having played senior grade, Michael McRitchie did play lower grade in his time. I would suggest that if we had someone qualified, suitable and willing, they would be there.

In regards to Bernie Gurr, no comment.

Here is that post I mentioned.

Apart from the Dogs who have 4 former first graders on their board and are yet to prove they can manage the business side of a footy club, only Broncos, Sharks, Panthers and Roosters have a single Director with any footy experience based on what I can find with some quick research. Doesn't seem like RL experience is a pre-requisite to success or otherwise.

Ex footballers should only be employed to identify potential future talent. They played football for a reason, and it wasn't for their stock market prowess.
Last time I looked, scouting players wasn't a Board members responsibility was it?

Are you serious/ I want some players with footballing nouse that are proven winners on the board. Peter Wynn would be fine with me. Has a good blend of business and footballing experience. And is a winner. Was he on it once ? I think he may have been.

And we have not one. We need someone to make the tough calls and present the footballing argument to the board so they can act. I accept there is perhaps some business knowledge on our board but the review has shown that they have failed miserably on the football side of things.

And why can't you comment on Gurr? He definitely has been the biggest failure at the club. Out of touch and made massive f**k-ups.

But that wasnt your post, you claimed we only give jobs to boys from our losing sides not the premiership ship wining sides which isn’t true, no players from losing sides have been given board jobs.

Anyhow Wynn was offered a directors role once but he rejected it;

Mate, sorry but 11 clubs have none (see my later post). Whilst it would be an ideal situation, first and foremost the Boards role is strategy, leadership and governance. The CEO is responsible for delivering business results within those boundaries.

I could comment on Gurr, however I choose not to.
