When Evans started out at the Roosters he was better than Napa imo but that was about 3-4 years ago. Since then he has been on a downward spiral who all have seen including our coaching staff. So why did we buy him? Only BA knows but he was never worth more than $150k for some time but I'll guarantee we paid more. Roosters only let players go that are past the use-by-date, which begs the question. Are we going to get value for money out of Fergo?

Evans when signed mid 2017 was coming off his previous best season in 2016 and was age 25. I was happy with signing. Fact is was 3yrs also speaks volumes. If wasnt around 300k or more I doubt his manager said take it.

On Fergo his pedigree is superior isnt it. Evans was never anythung more then 2 or 3 good runs a game for the roosters behind a good pack so those few runs looked good.

I’m sure they thought he could do as much as he already did at the Roosters. But like most of our players this year, his form was way down on previous years.

He did say in an interview that the club wanted him to put on weight. The disrupted pre-season certainly wouldn’t help when you’re trying to change your body shape.

And I’d say the long contract would have kept his price down. Remember we’re a club that is reluctant to spend money since 2016. I don’t reckon we do ‘desperate’. Or Hayne would’ve been retained long ago.

Was his form down compared to what he did at the Roosters though? When he was required to play for 20-25 minutes, which is what he was required to do at the Roosters, he went OK.

You can't expect more from a player than his capabilities. I believe the Club thought he was capable of more than he really is.

Anyone is capable of more than 20 minutes when fit. Even Sam Kasiano.

Evans was playing up to 60 minutes for Wenty. He can certainly handle 30-35 minutes in the NRL, which is all we need from him. In fact the long minutes from Brown means someone else in our pack has to miss out on game time.

This would be why we want Evans to get bigger rather than improve his endurance.

But again, there is no evidence to suggest that he is capable of that at NRL level. He's shown zero propensity of being able to deliver a quality consistence performance at NRL level for that amount of minutes.

The evidence is in the minutes he's already played. If you want more minutes you just leave him out there longer. He makes more runs and tackles. It's not magic.

Anyway he's played 30+ minutes plenty of times. Like Chrissy Amphlett said, if you've done it once you can do it again.

You obviously only watched him after we'd announced the signing, and last year he only played 30+ minutes twice. I'd say this was more to do with Robinson's desire to develop other players (who would be there in 2018) than with Evans' lack of stamina. There is also the fact that the Roosters use their middle forwards mostly for defence, and so they leave their best defenders out there most of the time. You can hardly criticise Evans for being a worse defender than Napa or JWH. The fact is he just wasn't required to play long minutes last year.

But in previous years he was required to play longer minutes and he did. He played 30+ minutes eighteen times in 2016 and eleven times the year before. In his nine games in 2014 he played over 30 minutes twice (same as last year), including on debut and when he started in the finals.

He even played 30+ in half his games this year. All up he's played 30+ minutes in nearly half of his career games. But you wouldn’t know because you never paid attention until after we signed him.

Brown,Alvaro,Tepai,Terepo can all play big mins in middle. I'd rather the other props be explossive and churn on dynamic 25-30mins a game.

I still think Evans can do a job for us given the right preseason preparation. I wouldn’t be writing him off just yet.

Imo his attitude would have to change. Guys a cat with no heart or real passion and desire.
Compare him to Alvaro and Terepo or Mannah and Brown. The difference in effort and body language is massive.

I’m glad you didn’t go with “I touch myself”.
