Rumours and Stuff

Has anyone got any info on the rumour that we've also told Gutho to look at other opportunities?

We haven’t told them anything, from November 1 every player off contract in 2019 is open to negotiate, you don’t need permission.

The DT have taken Some creative liberty to turn that fact (Which applies to every other team too) to say by not having them re-signed by Nov 1 we’ve effectively told them they can leave - which is absolutely ridiculous.

Then FB fanboy sites have further turned that into “eels have told players they can leave”

Just a reminder that I was told by a senior league journo that there are only 2 teams that spell papers, the Eels and Rabbits. Said they exaggerate every headline and story to maximise the opportunity of sales ( interweb clicks now).

They are now using Facebook rumours as background, social media definitely doesn't help, particularly with some of the drama queens that follow the Eels.

Look at the Hayne to dragons rumour, it has no legs but some are reporting it as the dragons have made an offer.

To recruit the players you need they need to be available at the right price. That is out of a coach's hands.
And the overs that parra needed to pay to attract top quality players post 2016 plus the lack of tpa’s make it very difficult. Imagine having broncos or roosters cash and being a club that players want to come to..I imagine that will take either years or short term success to achieve, but most of all the investment in club culture wil be the biggest factor in future success at parra..

His ranking in the roster depends entirely on the quality of the other forwards in the same roster. You'll note he wasn't necessarily in our top six middle forwards either.

He's not worth starting middle forward money, which is what he's getting. He's a $150k per year player, which is I'd say what the Roosters thought he was worth paying.

Dragons officials wary of signing Eels’ Jarryd Hayne

MATT LOGUE, The Daily Telegraph

JARRYD Hayne’s mooted move to St George Illawarra is far from certain with Dragons officials privately concerned about the star’s off-field dramas.

The Red V faithful went into meltdown this week when it emerged the Dragons were considering offering Hayne a contract.

St George Illawarra officials have discussed the prospect of luring the Parramatta back but they’ve made no approaches or tabled an offer to his management at this stage.

After losing Nene Macdonald to North Queensland, the Dragons have the salary cap space to sign another outside back. Hayne is definitely an option but club officials are wary of his ongoing civil lawsuit in the US involving sexual assault allegations.

A legal stoush is brewing between Hayne and the woman who lodged the lawsuit over whether the NRL star should be forced to fly to California for a potential grilling by her lawyers.

Hayne wants to be deposed in Australia ahead of their civil trial in San Jose, California, but the alleged victim argues Hayne should be in America for the high-stakes questioning.

Lawyers for both sides have indicated a judge may have to decide the matter, which won’t be concluded until a scheduled jury trial on January 27, 2020.

Dragons officials are concerned about the impact this could have on Hayne and the club, especially if the former Origin representative is forced to fly to the US for a hearing.

Hayne remains without a deal for 2019 and recently revealed via social media he was still awaiting an offer from Parramatta.

It’s understood he wants $700,000 a season but the Eels, Dragons and other clubs are stalling on the figure. Parramatta are keen to keep Hayne but may need to offload Corey Norman and Michael Jennings.

Norman has been linked to a number of clubs, including the Dragons, while Jennings could sign with Newcastle.

The Eels have 12 first-graders off contract in 2019 who will all be free agents from November 1. Winger Bevan French is one player Parramatta may struggle to retain.

He wants to play fullback and his management is open to joining another club to fulfil his desire.

Fake news, can you provide a media source quoting what Evans said is on? Or even a suggestion what he is on?And nospam46 and posters on this site don’t count!!

I believe it was reported he was on about $350k. Realistically you shouldn't need to pay your number 6 middle forward in your top 17 any more than half that.

He played eight games, starting half of them. Why would you think he’s on more money than anyone else in our pack?

Because we were apparently desperate to get tall forwards and Evans just happened to hit the jackpot and be in the right place at the right time.

Id suggest the club thought he could do more than he really could.

You'd have to imagine we'd punt him if we didn't have to pay him so much.

I’m sure they thought he could do as much as he already did at the Roosters. But like most of our players this year, his form was way down on previous years.

He did say in an interview that the club wanted him to put on weight. The disrupted pre-season certainly wouldn’t help when you’re trying to change your body shape.

And I’d say the long contract would have kept his price down. Remember we’re a club that is reluctant to spend money since 2016. I don’t reckon we do ‘desperate’. Or Hayne would’ve been retained long ago.

But not at the right price.

Why do you think we didn't sign any high-demand players between the salary cap fiasco and now? If you reckon we paid overs for Kane Evans I'd hate to think how much we've paid for Junior Paulo (now we finally have room for him. Or how much we would've had to pay for an even better forward.

Any signing could be a poor signing if you're paying far too much. And overs for a $700k value player would be a lot more than overs for a $250k value player.
Junior Paulo is not a poor player, imo he gained too much weight at Canberra which limited his potential. Hopefully he'll drop down to around 120kg which is his correct playing weight imo.

When Evans started out at the Roosters he was better than Napa imo but that was about 3-4 years ago. Since then he has been on a downward spiral who all have seen including our coaching staff. So why did we buy him? Only BA knows but he was never worth more than $150k for some time but I'll guarantee we paid more. Roosters only let players go that are past the use-by-date, which begs the question. Are we going to get value for money out of Fergo?
