These are my favourite Marcus Aurelius quotes:

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life.

Liberate the minds of men and ultimately you will liberate the bodies of men.

He was a great man.

So who's the merkin in the photo?

Marcus Aurelius is most notable for predicting the development of modern English 1300 years before it happened.

My favourite was when he said "The true worth of a race must be measured by the character of its womanhood.”

The last few replies are really doing a disservice to those that could benefit from the teachings of Marcus Aurelius and have never heard of him. There is nothing inspiring by these fake quotes attributed to one of the great philosophers of his time. Just to cleanse my mind, I suggest today's reading of Ecclesiastes from the bible. I will begin with the first chapter, the vanity of life. Not often attributed to stoicism, but in my eyes is one of the best stoic literature you will ever read and is given by the grace of god.

Ecclesiastes 1 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Vanity of Life
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher;
“Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

3 What profit has a man from all his labor
In which he toils under the sun?
4 One generation passes away, and another generation comes;
But the earth abides forever.
The sun also rises, and the sun goes down,
And hastens to the place where it arose.
The wind goes toward the south,
And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.
All the rivers run into the sea,
Yet the sea is not full;
To the place from which the rivers come,
There they return again.
All things are full of labor;
Man cannot express it.
The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor the ear filled with hearing.
That which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything of which it may be said,
“See, this is new”?
It has already been in ancient times before us.
There is no remembrance of former things,
Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come
By those who will come after.

I suggest reading the rest to find the vanity of pleasure, wisdom, knowledge and wealth. The life of all men is vanity.

I would hardly call any Caesar a great man. Just because he was a philosopher of sorts and preached great quotes does not make a Caesar great. Kind of like any polly today, they can sound like great and caring righteous leaders too, but their actions betray them always.

Caesars by the very definition of the Roman Empire were all modern day Stalin, Mao or Hitler. They all freakin practiced genocide ffs.

Get you head right. I know it was a hell of a long time ago by human standards, but you should maybe practice a little of your very first favourite quote of his.

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

Yep. It's no different to dropping the ball, which happens about 20 times each game. Merkins just piss and moan because it looks dramatic. But the effect is just a turnover, no different to any high risk pass that results in a dropped ball.
If we dropped the ball once every 2-3 games nobody would even worry about it. 20 times a game is just normal for Parra.
