Well considering previously solid players considered Origin fringies were shite in 2018 the problem obviously wasn't lack of talent in the squad. Whatever the problem was is due to group dynamics. It stands to reason that personalities were the problem and our mix of personalities needed a shakeup. Nobody in our team had more personality than Corey Norman, aside from maybe Kenny Edwards.
Personality and leadership are two different beasts. A leader is respected by those under him, those who are willing to put in that extra effort for their leader. You'd know all that though, Pou. But, neither half have shown leadership IMO.

Because he just f**ken was. Might've been to do with the fact he and Norman played left-right. This year it seemed to be Norman in the middle with Moses on the right and the fullback on the left. Having Moses play wider gives him more space to use his running game but less involvement overall. And because the opposition were never fatigued like they were in 2016 and 2017 we lacked space to spread the ball. So Moses had less opportunity.

Losing Edwards was a big blow to our right side attack as well. Tony Williams was strong in a couple of games. Moeroa doesn't have the attacking skills for the edges and Takairangi was required to play a lot of centre throughout the year.
Jeez. I didn’t want you life story...

Wests Tigers, Parramatta ready to pounce on uncontracted Robert Jennings

Dean Ritchie, The Daily Telegraph
December 16, 2018 4:15pm

Wests Tigers and Parramatta are the favourites to sign Robert Jennings if South Sydney’s rising star is forced out of Redfern.

A member of Laurie Daley’s Emerging Blues squad, Jennings does not have a club for next season and rivals are circling.

Jennings, 22, has agreed to a one-year extension at Souths for 2019 but the contract cannot be registered with the NRL until the Rabbitohs free up room in their jammed salary cap.

It is understood Souths would need to shed between $250,000 to $300,000 to allow Jennings’ contract to be approved.

There is speculation Jennings’ management were hoping to get their client $350,0000 a season, a figure said to be making new coach Wayne Bennett uncomfortable.

Souths would have plenty of cover in the outside backs should Jennings leave through Greg Inglis, Alex Johnston, Campbell Graham, Braidon Burns, Adam Doueihi and new recruit Corey Allan.

Johnston remains restless at the club and still may seek to leave if Inglis reverts to fullback and he is forced on to the wing for next season. That would free up some cap space but Johnston hasn’t yet sought a release, meaning Jennings may be pushed out.

Jennings scored 19 tries in 21 games last season and averaged 132 metres a match.

The Daily Telegraph has been told St George Illawarra were interested in securing Jennings until the club signed Corey Norman.

Parramatta has around $800,000 to spend should they successfully offload Norman and could unite Jennings with his brothers Michael and George.

It is also known new Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has a healthy opinion of Jennings.

Jennings could also prove handy at Manly should salary cap space emerge at the club.

Sea Eagles centre Dylan Walker’s future is in doubt as he faces common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm charges.

Walker will return to court on Tuesday and his lawyer has indicated he will plead not guilty to the charges.

Even though his future at Souths cannot be guaranteed, Jennings continues to train with the Rabbitohs, who still have two positions available in their top 30 squad for next season.

Just last week, Jennings told The Daily Telegraph that the situation was “tough”.

“Right now, I’m not signed for next season, no. I was looking to stay at South Sydney but they’ve got some cap issues so I’m just waiting to see if something can get sorted out,” Jennings said.

“Things have been pretty stressful but I’m just trying to keep my head up and focus on getting my body right for next year, wherever I’m playing.”

Jennings has expressed a strong desire to stay at Souths and be coached by Bennett.

Parramatta, Corey Norman breakup takes farcical turn

Paul Crawley and Dean Ritchie, The Daily Telegraph
December 16, 2018 4:43pm

St George Illawarra-bound Corey Norman is expected to be back training with Parramatta on Monday and could be an Eel until early January as the NRL’s latest ugly breakup becomes more farcical by the day.

Despite farewelling his Eels teammates last Friday — and attending Parramatta’s Christmas party — Norman’s pending exit continues to be put on hold until the playmaker comes to an agreement over the terms of his separation payment.

With the Eels unwilling to pay Norman the additional $20,000 he is seeking, the star five-eighth could remain at the Eels until his next Parramatta pay cycle on January 4 to recoup the money.

But the longer it drags on the more harm it is doing for both clubs, and a host of others whose futures are directly linked to the ongoing circus.

The Dragons understandably need Norman at training as soon as possible so he can take over at five-eighth and allow Gareth Widdop to prepare for his switch to fullback.

But also blowing in the wind is no small matter relating to incumbent No.1 Matt Dufty’s future.

The 22-year-old is at the crossroads of his career as he mulls over whether to take up a two-year contract extension at the Dragons until the end of 2021 and bide his time behind Widdop next year, or chase an immediate first grade opportunity at a rival club.

For the Eels, the sooner Norman is gone the better given his shadow also hangs over emerging halves Jaeman Salmon and Dylan Brown at every training session.

Also the effect on five-eighth Mitchell Moses, who is to assume chief playmaking duties.

Parramatta’s recruitment plans are also on hold until Norman walks out the door.

Coming off a wooden spoon finish in 2018, this is also the last thing Brad Arthur needs to be dealing with as the off-contract coach fights to save his own career.

But the problem for all involved is that Norman and Eels management just can’t settle on what is a fair payout.

Norman is on a contract worth $940,000 at the Eels next season but the Dragons can only afford to offer him $500,000, because every extra dollar will push them over the salary cap limit.

Norman wants $270,000 out of the Eels but they are refusing to budge past $250,000.

While that $20,000 difference hardly seems worth squabbling over, for both parties it has now developed into a matter of principal.

Perhaps understandably, Norman feels aggrieved by the fact the Eels had been attempting to shop him around for several months.

But now he has found a new club, he feels the Eels are trying to make him wear the brunt of the financial fallout.

Norman is on a back-ended three-year deal with Parra believed to be worth a total of $2.4 million. The 27-year-old earned $600,000 for 2017, $880,000 for 2018, while the $940,000 figure for 2019 was to be by far his biggest earn.

But even with a $270,000 payout on top of his $500,000 at the Dragons, Norman will still be out of pocket the best part of $170,000 on what he was to earn at the Eels next season.

It is understood Norman will take a pay cut of around $270,000 over three years to join Saints.

Parramatta’s perspective is somewhat different.

As it stands, Norman has already pocketed about $160,000 just by turning up to pre-season training at a club where he clearly has no future.

As every day passes, that figures rises by an estimated $2500.

There is no doubt Norman will be at the Dragons next season but not before commonsense comes to the rescue of everyone.

The situation has become so ludicrous that a list of Queensland Emerging Origin players doing the rounds in recent days had Norman listed as representing the Dragons.

The return of Norman’s manager, Paul Sutton, from a Bali holiday on Monday could help expedite proceedings.

Meanwhile, it is understood Dufty has been in negotiations with the Dragons to extend his stay but at this point has not agreed to terms.

It still wouldn’t surprise anyone to see Dufty ask for a release if he can find another home for 2019.

The Dragons have been adamant since talk emerged initially of their interest in Jarryd Hayne that they were not trying to push Dufty out of the club, though you’d still imagine potentially losing his spot to Norman was never on his Christmas wish list.

He’s right, with training done for the year or thereabouts, he can just hang around for 10 days and pocket the disputed cash.

Yep but then we might take that off what we are willing to pay him to leave. It’s a mexican standoff

The smartarse usually loses in negotiations. My view is that you make an unemotional commercial outlook at these things. So I think they are both acting like twits.

I agree, unless that $20k is important to clinching a signing for the eels. I doubt that’s the case though.

Norman is already doing Parra a favour and taking a pay cut to leave so Bernie and the trolley boy should just give him the $20k and stop being tight arses

The paycut is $270k over three years. So the majority of the paycut is with his new employer.

Norman has also received $160k for doing fitness training. He is hardly short of a dollar.
