I hope you don’t live your life planning for rare events to save your arse.
Breaking contracts is never rare, Klemmer had 2 years to run and same with Napa I think. Obviously Knights never talked to Dogs about Klemmer and Dogs to Roosters about Napa. There is a history of players breaking contracts well before they expire over the years. As I say, if there's a will there'll always be a way.

October 2018

“....with Klemmer being given formal permission by his club to negotiate with rivals despite having two years left on his contract.”

As of midnight, Canterbury are free to negotiate with Napa,

You are missing the chief orchestrators in any player move. The f**king player agents. I could almost guarantee the Klemmer/Napa moves didn't go down like you reckon they did or how you believe we should chase players. Player agents are like any other market agents. They know the general market tendencies, they gauge interest certain buyers for general targets and sellers willingness to release those targets and once those 2 measurements get close, they try to strike a deal between the required parties.

Us or any club approaching another club's player has rules against it.
A club approaching another club would almost never happen, barring troublesome players or at the very end of trying to make a deal.
A club approaching a player agent about a specific player is same as first point, but about a general type of player (likely indicated by describing a specific player) would be relatively common.
A player agent approaching a club about a specific player is your best chance of getting a "broken" contract.

Because they had leveraged their own desire to leave and gained permission to negotiate, you absolute spanner. That's exactly the point. They didn't break anything, thery were f**king released

So, tell me, why would St George give Lomax permission to negotiate?

Same reason why we released Dylan Brown to the Warriors. Oh wait.

The only guys who get released are usually overpaid stars or clubs under cap trouble. Klemmer fit the bill for cap trouble.
Guys like Moylan I assume both club and player happy to go. Just like eels and Norman.

LOMAX would be most likely is same situation as Dylan Brown. No way he is let go unless chucks a tantrum and even then id say club digs heels in.

You mean that they give the contracted player permission to negotiate with other clubs.

Unsure how the Duke does it. But plenty of over paid signings or re signings that he manages to get out of club and fix mistake. We seem to get stuck with ours.
Hoffman for example should of been gone. Perhaps even Taka.

Cartwright,Latu,Hiku,Merrin all on massive over yet gone once Duke knew they not worth cost he made them dissapear. Moylan was more mutual. And it never seemed to effect their cap which is odd.

@Glenneel thats the key point here. There has to be a will from 3 or more different parties. I never thought I would say this but I see where you are coming from but the example you have given (Napa, Klemmer, even Hayne to us the second time) are all a completely different scenarios.

Whilst we know that Jabba the Hutt is immune to the powers of the Force, I would think that in this instance he just does what everyone else does - a) tells them that top 17 opportunites are not looking good for them and that their career prospects would be enhanced playing elsewhare, and b) pays some of their freight.
