Whilst we know that Jabba the Hutt is immune to the powers of the Force, I would think that in this instance he just does what everyone else does - a) tells them that top 17 opportunites are not looking good for them and that their career prospects would be enhanced playing elsewhare, and b) pays some of their freight.

I reckon he pays nothing that counts against cap. Their squad is too strong.

Question...
Who will be halves and hooker for Wenty.

I reckon both Kaysa and Mahoney make top 17 for NRL. Salbass in centres as well.

Leave W.Smith as one half. Who gets the 9 and 6 or 7 to partner W.Smith

Breaking contracts is never rare, Klemmer had 2 years to run and same with Napa I think. Obviously Knights never talked to Dogs about Klemmer and Dogs to Roosters about Napa. There is a history of players breaking contracts well before they expire over the years. As I say, if there's a will there'll always be a way.
Those aren't broken contracts, they are clubs agreeing to release players. You'll also note neither is an up-and-comer able to provide value to their gaining club. Both were already on good money (and therefore chewing up significant cap space at their existing club) and offered overs by their gaining club. Clubs are happy to move these guys on because it creates cap space, and if they remained (and were unhappy not to get the release) they would just be a cap burden.

Youngsters like Lomax are cheap enough (and also lack the clout) to not be a problem if forced to stay. If they really want more money their clubs can give it to them without breaking the bank. Neither the Dogs nor the Roosters saw any value in upgrading Klemmer or Napa, respectively.

A will?

The merkins aren’t dying - just changing clubs.

Anyway, all of the examples you have provided require a mutual agreement between each party so it isn’t a case of a contract being ‘broken’ per se.

Perhaps @Glenneel can let us know how come Widdop could not walk away from his 2019 deal and has to wait until 2020 before he can go back home ?

He may not want to or feels like he owes the club the season. Unlike some guys who couldn't care about club...Hayne persues NFL dream... Some people have different morals.
