On the TCT site (I know, always overly optimistic) they reckon that all the tries were due too mistakes by French, Evans and one by the Wenty halfback. Without them, maybe things would have been better.
It seems as though Gutherson will well and truly be ahead of French for the fullback spot. Apparently Salmon was ineffective at five-eight? He's trained most of the pre-season at centre and had a sub standard halves partner, so that might excuse him.
Looks like our backline will be:
1. Gutherson
2. Ferguson
3. M. Jennings
4. Salmon/ Taka
5. G. Jennings
6. Moses
7. D Brown
Not awe-inspiring but certainly has potential. We're pinning a lot of hope on Brown (who has never played first grade) and Moses (who has been very erratic so far in his career).
Still, this is definitely a development year, and I really don't think we have any expectations at all. A lot of players off-contract, which is a handy thing.
Who are you and what have you done with lingard?

Im not sure having so many off contract together is a good idea.
One school of thought is that they will put in to enhance their worth.
Of cause the distraction of potential suitors and the pressure of an unknown future may have a greater influence of the negative variety. Why we have not sorted out Guthersons future cant be viewed anything other than poor management in my opinion.
I guess we will find out soon enough.
The good thing is the number of players off contract whose overall necessity (for lack of a better word) to resign is minimal.
As it stands at the moment, the order I would resign* them in is:
Any of the juniors who show a glimmer of being a good player
Daylight
Alvaro
Gunco (I expect if he and/or Alvaro start the season well, the club will look to extend early)
Moses (largely due to the position he plays)
Moeroa/Niukore
Mannah/Mau
Jennings
French
Everyone else
Taka

*obviously this is if we were in a vacuum. External signings would alter the order as much as how they perform this season/expected to perform next season

Interesting to see from the podcast thread that Dylan Brown prefers playing 6 to 7 because he considers himself a running type of half. He has also played fullback. And at 95kg (surely he’s joking there) he would have to be the biggest half in the Comp.

I think he is only 85kg and taking the piss.

Id say 90kgs. He is very ripped.

Mitch Moses vows to use the Eels’ wooden spoon as motivation

Mitchell Moses wants to erase Parramatta’s wooden spoon from his memory.

But there is one thing from last year that he wants to bottle up and keep at the ready for season 2019 if ever he finds himself needed any extra motivation.

“It’s one of those seasons that I just want to wipe out,” he said.

“But I’m a competitor and it really does hurt when we lose, and I don’t want to forget that hurt or forget how I felt after games.

“I’ll use that hurt to drive us to win games this year.”

After only six wins to finish last in 2018, the halfback was on the receiving end of dressing down by coach Brad Arthur. He was even told he was free to look for a new club for 2019.

“Brad was just really honest with me. It was granted. I didn’t have a good year at all. You can’t just have one good week and have three off, which is what I was doing,” he said.

“You can’t do that playing NRL footy and Brad was upfront with me about it. I’m a competitive person, so when I heard those things I wanted to come back and do it for myself and for the boys as well.

“Hearing those things, I really felt like I did let the team down.”

The uncomfortable conversation was a reality check for Moses and he insists he hasn’t taken any of it personally.

“I respect that he was so honest and how he went about it,” he said.

“But we’ve come back and kissed and cuddles and made up, we’re fine. We’ve got a good relationship at the moment. What we are trying to do here at Parramatta is build a new culture. He’s pretty much leading that.”

Arthur’s men have been reluctant to divulge the underlying nature of this “new culture” emerging in Sydney’s west. But one common theme does emerge when players open up about their preseason so far — unity.

The entire squad spent a week on the Central Coast “reconnecting” recently and have been coming together as group and talk about the things that matter to them as people.

“Come round one, it’s going to take a whole team effort to win games and we want to become a closer team. We feel like if we become a closer team and really work for each other we’ll get result,” Moses said.

It’s not the only change unfolding at Parramatta. While some might expect Arthur to come down hard on his players this preseason, Moses says his normally exacting coach has mellowed down.

“B.A. has been really good for us. He’s been a bit more relaxed in his approach he’s looked after the boys,” he said.

“But he has been hard on us when we needed it. He’s got that good happy medium there this year.

I've never been more pessimistic about a season than this one. Don't get me wrong I love this team and hope they surprise me but I can't see it happening. We have gaping holes in our entire squad. As a mate of mine recently said we will start off quite spirited but be pulverised by seasons end.

If we come last again, I don't care if every player except Gutherson and Nathan Brown leave.

as long as Arthur leaves and he isn't replaced by some bargain basement coach Max and Bernie find at Vinnies

I just read a comment on another site that said our 2020 coach was signed already !

He even said the merkin’s name ....
