I don't think there's value carrying 3 hookers in the top 25. If one of your two hookers gets injured for a few weeks, the other hooker should be able to play most of the game with someone in the 17 covering for a short stint. If it's a long term injury you bring in your back up from the second tier (what IDG should be)

I'd round out the bottom 8 in the top 25 with 3 middle forwards, 2 edge forwards, a half and 2 outside backs.

We had the intention of carrying 3 hookers in our Top 25 this season and would have done for the entire season had Peats not been moved on.

I reckon having 3 hookers is the reason Peats got moved on. IDG was an emergency signing last year when Peats got injured so to get him we had to offer that extra year meaning carrying 3 hookers in 2016. The fact that we released our best and a potential origin player indicates that BA probably didn't want 3 hokers in the top 25 this year.

why would we sign the worst dummy half in the comp for two more years??? I reckon it's a fair question.

Probably because he's cheap and would allow us to sign better players in other positions, heck we may even get a better dummy half. With player managers wanting to flex their power before the big 2017 off-season I wouldn't be surprised if we see another whirlwind of signings in a certain position much like we did this past off-season with all the centres going to new clubs.

I don't think anyone is denying IDG is the worst dummy half in the competition. tbh I don't fully agree with the signing either when looking at it from a playing perspective, we need more penetration in the middle and a way of doing this is getting a better dummy half to provide better service to the forwards and to pick out markers when they're being lazy. I personally believe that between Pritchard and King we have 2 decent dummy halves that can exploit the defence's weakness. Instead we're going a different direction and getting better bench forwards in Vave and Brown who are currently better attacking props than what we have, so we're banking on them having the same impact they're having at their current club to get us over the advantage line for the full 80 minutes rather than just some of it. I also think we could have waited to see if someone's price dropped or come off the market as I said above. But it is what it is and complaining about a signing that's already been confirmed just gets on people's nerves.

What hookers are really available though?

Mitch Rein seems to be the "best" of who is available other than Robbie Farah however Farah IMO will bring way too much baggage with him and could cause more distractions than needed.

Of the twenty who are off contract according to http://www.zerotackle.com/rugby-lea...ct-2016/by-position-2016/#urKIlkKdr4vg1zjT.97

The majority have either played limited NRL games or have been fill ins at best outside of Segayaro, Rein, Baptiste and Srama. Srama hasn't played first grade this season and Rein was let go by the Dragons.

Other than players on contract who may well be moved on how do we upgrade that position?

Also take into account that the two year deal may only include an option for 2018 rather than a confirmed deal.

Am I the only person who thinks that IDG is one of the best defending hookers in the comp?

Matt Keating was also one of the best defending hookers in the comp. Ask Pou, he has the stats. The problem was he was the worst attacking hooker in the comp. Just like De Gois. The game has moved away from having a little bloke who tackles his heart out and offers nothing with the ball.

Yep, it's not the 80's anymore. You need more than a tackling machine to challenge the top sides in the comp.

Seeing as the announcement of re-signings are being done one at a time day by day are we expecting anymore announcements today or in the coming days or is that it from our current squad

The Bulldogs are still a chance of finishing Top 4 with one.

Would we have many more "re-signings" to make? Maybe Robson

Although I believe we've signed second tier players O'Brien and Uelese, but not official.

What are you talking about? Lichaa offers a fair bit with the ball, especially compared to IDG. Lichaa:
3 tries
5 try assits
2 line breaks
6 line break assists
They are very good numbers and shit on plodder De Gois. Lichaa's defence is actually a lot better than De Gois' too. Lichaa has made 712 tackles with 24 missed compared to De Gois who has made 571 tackles with 47 missed.

Again, I'd say if you swapped the players teams, so De Gois at the Dogs and Lichaa at Parra, they'd have similar stats in attack. Both teams attack very differently and this has nothing to do with which player would be in the 9.

Pure speculation based on no evidence. Lichaa is much better with the ball as evidenced by his attacking stats. De Gois offers SFA as evidenced by his lack of attacking stats.

No doubt we signed him becasue he is cheap. He is also crap. For some reason BA places little importance to the dummy half position even though all the top teams have very good or great 9s and we will again rival Newcastle as having the worst hookers in the comp next year.
Ennis, McCullough and Lichaa are all pedestrian dummy halves and their teams are doing okay. Put them behind strong packs and they do just fine.
