I think there is a little difference between the expectations of pay for Mannah and Gower.

Mannah has been a Top 17 player for 10 years, including captaining his club. There is an expectation of a completely different minimum level of pay for a player with that experience.

Gower has never been paid an amount that would've had him in the Top 20 players at any club he has been at for his entire career. Realistically, the way that the incomes have gone up at the lower end of the squad, he's probably still getting a pay rise every year.

I can't see Mannah sticking around in the NRL on money that isn't considered Top 17 money.
Depends how much he needs the money or just wants to keep playing footy. If he's been smart with his money (and he's a lebanese, so he probably owns half of Guildford by now) then he won't need the cash. And there's a good chance he'll remain involved with the club.after he retires so he won't need a top 30 spot to stay relevant.
I suggest he won't be a a Top 17 player at any club in the NRL in 5 years time (which would make him the same age as Gower is now)
He is only three years younger than Gower.
I suggest Mannah's future is some decent pay in the UK.
I suggest such a community-minded person won't want to leave Sydney, ever. A payday in England is more appealing for those players who either pissed all their money up against a wall or spent their career handing out cash to relatives. There is also the fact that citizens of all of the member states of the Pacific Islands Forum other than Australia and New Zealand have the right to work in the EU. This means anyone with a Samoan, Tongan, Fijian, Cook Islands, etc. passport can play for a Super League club without taking up an import slot, meaning they don't need to be high quality to be an attractive proposition for English clubs. Mannah is effectively excluded from this.

This point just negates your entire argument that he needs to play for as long as Gower.

This point may change quite soon.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, the doyen of rugby leagu ( Paul K*nt) has declared that the Eels are not good enough. They are only winning games as the teams they have played were injury ravaged.

Someone is paying the moron for statements that reflect his dislike for a club that didn't play him enough, really !!!

If we re-signed Mannah for $200-$300k then I don't think we could get a better experienced quality player for less the way he has been playing and is playing at the moment. Two more years would be about right.

As much as he is a shit leader I have never doubted his ability. The problem is we have had a crap pack for a fare chunk of his time at the Eels and him not being a power house prop in the mould of Fifita or Klemmer mould, it has made him look ineffectual to many. But the fact is he has been doing what you see now for his entire career.

He is an honest worker, that gets fast play the balls and can tackle. Lets not forget he made Origin when we had a decent team because he was able to play much like you see now. Sure I'm not saying he is an Origin level player now, those days are way past him, but his output from the bench has been fantastic and it has been aided by having a team(pack) that is doing their fair share, so when he comes on the defense isn't fresh and ready to smash him as much as they had been. The sting is out of them a little now and the whole team has benefited too.

Mannah is a great club man that has given Parra his all. He deserves a new lower end contract and some respect from the fans that seem to think our team is worse off with him in it, cos it is not. His contribution has been terrific when you asses his game impartially. Low error rate, minimal penalties given away, fantastic tackler, average run meter always over 120m and model citizen off the field. Bargain at 200-300k.

Like Gower, if he is willing to take the lesser contract and willing to play for Wenty when form permits then agree he has all the experience you could want and is a true Parra boy. I agree about his (lack of) leadership and the fact that he has been a great clubman.

Maybe the club could offer him an Ambassador Role with a handsome salary once he retires? That way we could pay him less while he continues to play. Get on it Marky O.
