Fu*k this stand over sh*t. Tell him hes got until Friday to sign or hes taking orders from Rip. Lets see how much hes offered elsewhere while playing "C Cup". Na na. Up yours King.

That's possibly the silliest, most childish thing I've read. All this media talk is coming from his manager. Did the storm drop cameron smith when he wasn't re-signing last year?

Guth sits just outside the top fullbacks in the game. He's worth 700k and not the million 4/5 of the elite ones are on. He's still a great player, second most metres gained, most LBAs in the comp, tied 3rd most try assists. Plus we know he's a leader and gaining more confidence in the role and he isn't a merkin off the field.

I would give him 700k pay Mennings 500k at most

There’s some upside to the king, but there’s a shitload of limitations too. 650k is a decent deal imo.

I do, otherwise I wouldn't have asked for your insightful. worldly opinion.
Honestly I have no idea what he should sign for. There are too many other variables.
If I were buying a house, I'd know how much I'd have to spend, I'd compare available properties for value, asking price, rental yields, capital rate of return, etc but I'd also consider opportunity cost of buying now, break costs of selling in future, etc. I'd know all this and set my price limit knowing in all likelihood there's someone more desperate or less stringent on research willing to pay more.
The club have people being paid to work this out for their 30 man squad. I won't pretend to simplify their job

What do you think Gutho is worth?
What he's worth and what the cap restrictions allow aren't the same thing. Be nice to pay him what he's asking and I'm sure the club have looked hard at it. In the end, they have fit everybody in under some pre-ordained cap. Even wooden spooners don't escape.

Excellent! I don't expect the Eels to pay overs for Gutho or anybody else going forward, just like your analogy of the real estate market.

Good post. I’d give him a mill if 300 plus isn’t on the cap. Broncs could give him $80,000 and the thoroughbreds $920,000

Overs is the stupidest f**king term in sports. Unless they blow up the comp and every player is available to sign by every team and even then it'd have to be some convoluted complete 30 man squad negotiating practice then there is really no basis to determine legit market value and the after performance is too subjective to determine rate of return

At a stab, given the lack of decent fullbacks in the market, the numbers already touted, his own standing among fullbacks, his captaincy and cause he's a top bloke, $700k for 3 years.
And as I said previously, depending how injury replacement/retirement rules work, i.e. if he does his ACL again can we take him off cap, then realistically there's probably not going to be any difference between 3 years or 4 when it comes to Gunco. He'll be as good or better in that 4th year as he is now, but he won't be worse unless he gets injured
