Rumours and Stuff

Sure, they are entitled to do that. I just thing it’s the wrong strategy. Also, conversely it could be argued that the club are trying to be greedy by trying to pressure him into a contract that undervalued when compared to other fullbacks in the competition.
If they're trying to pressure him then they're doing a bad job given that all the stories are about how we should give him what he wants rather than about how he should accept our offer. Which appears to be the best offer on the table. And the club has already stated that the stuff in the press isn't coming from them, and I believe that.

Well the market (highest offer) determines what anyone is worth so if you’re right, we have absolutely nothing to worry about.

However, Im not so sure ours ($650k) will end up being the highest offer. I know someone on the 1st grade coaching staff at Manly and there does seem to be genuine interest. I guess we’ll wait and see what cap position they’re in and whether they can exceed our current offer.
No one is saying the market can't change. Without a signed contract there's always a chance he might go elsewhere. But if our plan to sign players is to pay more than all the other clubs then we're gonna run out of money pretty fast.

Tbh Pricey would know all about morons. Great player, absolutely no mistake... but my goodness he left at least 65% of his brain matter smeared somewhere on the field over the years.
Yep. I’ve snapped nuggets that are smarter than Pricey.

As clubs' rosters fill up for 2020 they will have less to spend, not more.

I think Gutherson is a little thick...what happens if he does his knee without being contracted, take the $650, it’s a good offer!

Maybe the club should make an offer to Moylan or some other fullback around that level and leak a story to the press about it.

Because the market has already determined his value and he's asking for more than anyone is willing to pay. And he's happy for his manager to use media mates to drum up pressure on the club and force them to pay more than they think he's worth.
What have other clubs offered?

Why would he want 4 years anyway? Say he makes soo in 2 years time then he'll be cheap at 650k.
Not backing himself. Agree YY.

Four years is three years locked up and a year on the market ( for the following year ). I'd agree 650k would be cheap if he was playing good enough to be picked for SOO, but there's a high likelihood of an upgrade in that fourth year as an inducement to stay if that's the case,

So the only thing set in stone is that a four year contract guarantees him a minimum for those four years, which would be pretty valuable to anyone in his position. At worst he's probably trading off a potential upgrade in the third year for that guarantee in the third and the fourth.
