I don’t think he’s being greedy. He has placed a minimum value on his services (like every other professional athlete does) and the club are yet to match it.

I also don’t think he’s asking for an exorbitant amount.

$700k for 4 years. The club just need to get it done.
Didn't I read somewhere he's happy with $650k but the sticking point is club offering 3 years only and he wants 4?

Exactly. So there’s a possibility that his value will increase even further. Can’t blame Gutho for holding out, which was the basis of this discussion in the first place.
But there’s also the greater likelihood that clubs will start chewing into their future cap space as other off contract players re-sign.

Look injuries happen. Sure he could get injured again and we lose him for a while. But he is also the type of player that will work very hard to get back on the field. Yes I know he wasn't at his best last year after his comeback, but how much of that was his own form and how much of it was the lack of opportunities playing behind a team of wooden spoon calibre?

Look $650K is a lot of money, but it is also a very reasonable amount for a player like Guth and all that he brings. Hell we have Jennings on around $800K at the moment and we are still doing ok. My point is, it is his workload and not his speed that makes him the player he is, so I can't see him giving up that attitude and ethic even if he were to get injured again. So even if that were to happen, as long as the team is strong around him and not a spoon contender again, then his comeback from injury should not be like the last one, therefore worth the risk.

We need to sort this out quick. Even if we got him for 3 years at $650K instead of 4 years, how happy would that make him feel that the club that he will bleed for and lead for those next 3 years and he has hopefully grown to love, have played such hardball with him? These next 4 or 5 yeas are his best years now and he was hardly on huge bucks when he got here, so he needs to make sure that he can set himself up for the rest of his life right now. I don't think that he is being unreasonable at all.

The club would not be losing its power by giving him this deal. Gutho and Moses are the two players that are irreplaceable right now. As long as the deal is a reasonable one management should get it done. Stop being to cute before their player managers pull down your pants.

With Roberts in reserve grade, Aitken playing off the bench there is a chance Gutho might play right centre in origin. I wonder if Freddy has given him a heads up he’s a chance. if he gets picked he’ll be worth more
He won’t be worth any more. Why would a player be worth more money when he’s unavailable for some games?

There are players worth less than Gutherson who get picked for a Origin, and players worth more who don’t. Whether they get picked is partially based on their ability, which determines value. But getting picked doesn’t mean their ability increased. It may just mean an incumbent was unavailable. Why should a player’s value increase just because a player at another club was injured or suspended at Origin time?

Anyone with half a clue will see the club as prudent and responsible, whether he re-signs or not. Only the media and fans will see it as all bad or all good, and our management has shown it doesn’t care, thank f**k.

Or if he doesn't sign, we will see that a reasonable request of 4 years instead of 3, was ignored and he was lost to another club and now we have no high quality fullback and it will take at least 2 or 3 years to sort out if we are lucky.

I know you love mediocrity Pou, but Bevan French will not be our fullback if we ever win a GF again.

The way Fitler spoke about MJ on Sunday I'd say he is still in mix.
Waqa Blake,Leluai,Croker would be options also.

Will just mean we have an average fullback then (who ever replaces gutho), however more quality in another position (maybe a better centre for Taka).

The overall quality of players in the squad won’t change.

I like a strong pack first and strong wingers. Fullbacks look good cause they are used as strike weapons. Just like centers. When forwards are giving them room they will have games that appear to be great but when forwards I including wingers have poor go forward centers and fullbacks look bad.

Look at Dylan Edward's. Are Panthers any better without him playing? Nope. Cause he was not the problem.
