And he is a good mate of our captain...Jake T is exactly the kind of player we need. Sadly he has Maroon and white flowing through his veins. Absolute class individual on and off the field.

Cotric in a heartbeat...Serbian boy, what else would you expect? I'd take Nick Cotric and Tom Opacic from the Cowboys too.
Sadly I don’t think that’s enough. And he is a good mate of our captain...

They couldn't tie Sinisa Mihajlovic's cizma.Serbian boy, what else would you expect? I'd take Nick Cotric and Tom Opacic from the Cowboys too.
Kostjasyn, O'Neill, Hampton and McLean all took advantage of it. I wonder how much Jahrome Hughes and Patrick Kaufusi paid for their houses to move in the other direction.I think when you move from Melbourne to Townsville there is some local council incentive that gas something to do with getting your new house built at below cost price.
Might not be, but I do remember posting a few weeks ago about a "marquee" player we are keeping some $ for... mmm.Sadly I don’t think that’s enough.

Either him or Nemanja Vidic.
Vidić was the best central defender the world has ever seen.Or Milan Ivanovic. He was a better defender.
But how long did the good form last? Once we had our first loss we seemed to slide into a hole, the same hole we fall into every year, and the coaching staff seem powerless to do anything about it, which also happens every year. Our coaches are poor and don't instill any confidence, mongrel, unity or leadership into the group, and at the moment they can't even catch the ball ffs. Same shit year after year, even good players turn to shit, and my mood turns shitty. Even well coached teams have lulls, lose a few games but quickly recover. We do shit for 5-6 weeks and even longer (like 2018) and very rarely get back to any decent form thereafter and the season is gone with another bottom 8 finish. How exactly do these things you mention fall onto the coaches?
There have been games this year where we have held the ball, tackled like demons (including locking the ball up), had great line speed in D, not been left on the ground, not lost the ruck, and have passed/offloaded like the Harlem Globetrotters and we have won those games (or even lost games like v Roosters), so the players have the ability to do all of these things.
Are you insinuating that maybe the coaching staff coach them to not do these things for certain games?
Wow!!
Yes their form at the moment is extremely impressive, not only their attack but also their defence has improved out of sight. We played them (and everyone else) into form, who is going to play us into form? When is Michael Jennings back. I would consider giving him the captaincy.
I would take it from Gutherson and switch Gutherson to the centres he is not good at fullback or leader.
We need a captain who can lift the team in a similar way to what Pearce is doing in Newcastle. They have a coach very similar to ours. Nice guy, players have very little respect for him. That Newcastle team has fired itself up via Pearce as leader. He is focused, hyperactive and competent. None of our "leaders" have those three. Moses is hyperactive but not focused or competent. Jennings has potential for those three.
They might be big stats but really, a forward that runs for 200m shouldn't have to make 40 tackles. That limits his effectiveness and means others arn't doing their job in D.I think he is, since 2017 there's been 18 times where a forward has made 200m and 40 tackles in the same game, Nathan Brown has 6 of those games. He also makes a fair few 4th tackle hit-ups, which Gutherson has been taking to try and get quick play the balls, and I think as a result our kick chase has been poor. He provides a passing game in the middle. He looks to put on a big shot when the team needs it.
The loss of Nathan Brown is understated, I think he's our best player and definitely a forward leader.
here's a link to the 200/40 stats.
An 80 minute middle forward should be making 40 tackles. Any less and he's not working hard enough while on the field. They might be big stats but really, a forward that runs for 200m shouldn't have to make 40 tackles. That limits his effectiveness and means others arn't doing their job in D.
Paulo's problem imo relates solely to what the coach is doing with him. Playing 35-40 mins in one stint is blunting both his A & D. Shorter stints would suit him better, no more than 25 mins each half. About time to blood some different players next week. Hoping but not confident BA will do anything, which places no responsibility on any player who has a poor game.80 minutes of a bloke making barely more than 40 tackles is no benefit to anyone. It's the bare minimum for a middle defender and we now have Paulo struggling to make 25 tackles in 50 minutes. We need players like Moeroa. He and Alvaro would combine for about 70 tackles over 80 minutes.
Hopefully in reduced minutes this year Brown can work harder in defence to help cover Paulo.
Vidić was the best central defender the world has ever seen.
