The point isn't that they will (which largely depends on which team they end up playing for), it is that they all could.
Look at Addo-Carr. A skinny speed merchant. He goes to Melbourne where all his kick return opportunities come against teams forced to kick from inside their own half. Imagine how good he would look if he was receiving bombs near his own tryline five or six times every week. He would be nowhere near Origin. Instead he is in a team where he can take advantage of his strengths and hide his weaknesses. This is true of nearly every player who appears in Origin.
It's not that I don't agree with this statement Pou, it's just that some players you can tell are quality in a bad to average team or if juniors have much potential and should be fought for and kept through their teething years to see if that natural potential comes to fruition.
We have one player in our squad right now that I thought could go either way, that I feel could be a star in a powerful team but is ordinary in our Jekyll and Hyde team.
Bevan French. But the problem with him is he can be very skittish and dog the collision. So when he is bad, he can be very bad. Ado-Carr so far hasn't shown fear, but is that due to the team he is in and their very dominant and winning record? Maybe. It is a pity we the Eels will never know from our own perspective. When he leaves he needs to pick a very strong and successful team for his own sake even if it means less money for now. To go to another yo yo team would only make for similar results.
But players like Matterson don't have size issues, so when they show great promise, we need to be better at keeping them. If we don't have the people currently in our club that have the persuasive gift, then I would make that a priority in recruitment. We need people that know their job and know how to keep our best players here. I know we won't keep them all, but we need to keep most of the good ones.
