All I am saying, for all the early hype on this kid, he so far only gets a 6.5 out of 10 score card from me thus far.
6.5 out of 10 is a first grader IMO, and promising for a bloke not yet 21. As you say, he doesn't have the footwork of Ma'u or Edwards, but he is already a better defender than both of them.

On a positive note I love Gutherson. His energy is my favourite part of his game. He also has skills, but the energy levels are what really sets him up to being a great player. If he develops a good kicking game ala Cronk, then the guy can be somewhat of an elite player.
Betrween him and Norman, they are two very busy players and if they both play in the halves together, we could potentially have a very, very potent halves pairing. I think they would feed of each other and their infectious spirit would seep through the team to the power of 10.

Lets not forget how young Gutho is and by all accounts, Coach said that he is the most willing of pupils to carry out game plan instructions. He also trains extras more than anyone at the club. Very Cronk like. If he solely concentrated on his kicking game over the summer, we could have a very special player on our hands.

Lets all hope that this is what is going through Arthur's head at present in relation to our halves.

I dare say Manly would love to have him back there on what, $250K, compared to Dylan Walker playing 6 earning double that or whatever... There were plenty of Manly fans sorry to see him go, he was held in high regard there

So you are prepared to be patient with Gutho, but wont afford Tepai the same patience who is the same age ?

I love how Gutherson was pushing up in support for the Tim Mannah offload that lead to the French try.

To push up in support and be there just in case when a guy like Mannah is running the ball just shows how much enthusiasm and commitment he plays with.

And this is an important feature of spine players that many fans overlook. They need to be highly involved, which is why they are often smaller. This is the main reason why Billy Slater outperformed Hayne at fullback despite Hayne being a better player in most (every?) other facet - Slater was involved on nearly every play, whereas Hayne tends to follow any involvement (even just a support run with no possession) with a rest.

Gutho is showing plenty and has exceeded everyone's expectations, Tepai has not. He is improving slightly and I am willing to give him more time. I am just underwhelmed at this point though. But there is plenty of potential there, so lets hope he fulfills it.

Thank f**k for that. I'll let Tepai know that he's safe for the time being.

Maybe yours but Gutherson was a gun junior with massive wraps on him!! Injuries have hurt him over the last few years but there was the expectation he would be a decent player.

Moeroa is a year younger and playing in the forwards which is a lot harder to shine in. Forwards take longer to develop.

Here's a question for you, name 3 starting forwards under the age of 22 which you think are going pretty good ?

Yeah thanks scoop. Anyone who saw him play could see he was a good prospect and that's why I was very happy when we signed him. I wasn't talking about a decent player though, he has gone beyond that just with his versatility and game energy. With some concerted off season training and application, he could turn out to be an elite player.

Like I said somewhere else, I haven't watched much footy, other then the Eels this year, due to obvious reasons(I'm pissed off with the games management and direction). But I was more impressed with Junior Paulo's early contributions when he first debuted with us.

Junior Paulo is a lazy impact forward. For every one of him you need three or four guys like Moeroa taking up the slack.
