Rumours and Stuff

Would that be the one out running that has us with the third best attack in the NRL?

It's the games we lose that I care about. The games we win we throw the ball around a lot more, have decoy runners and support play and use the ball a lot better overall. This tells me that when our backs are to the wall and the opposition is giving it to us or we just aren't switched on in the game, or fatigue has set in due to losing the ruck and over defending, we then have very little structure and personnel that will do those little things under fatigue that help the ball carrier to stretch the defense to regain momentum. So we revert to one out hitups that the defense then just compresses and handles fairly easily.

Talent as a football team is not our problem. We are mentally a very weak team. That is why we have such yo-yo performances and embracing defeats. That is why I can't wait to see the back of some of these players and inject some new blood that have a proven stronger attitude. Watch the top four teams, rarely will you see one out running over and over again with the rest of the team just bystanders. Then go watch our games and see how often we have chunks of games that that's all we do.

The Storm or the Roosters rarely do hitups at all without purpose. Now there's your clue.

I don't necessarily disagree. At least not entirely

I just don't rate the player they may have chosen very highly and would look elsewhere myself. But I'm not the one running the club
While none of the 3 names we’ve been linked to are individually exciting, a wholesale change to our pack could be greater than the sum of its parts.

Or monumentally catastrophic

Good defence?

As good as Mau is, his defence is pretty suspect.
Yep Mau’s defence is pretty suss at times but his attack is pretty good. Jackson is a great defender and doesn’t offer much else. Obviously they see a massive weakness in our defence and he is the bloke to plug that gap.

Yep and Im Eels all the way. Attack has shown some improvement but defence. Ouch. I like what hes done with Taka and Big Kane. Cant be critical there.
I must say its hard to be critical of our recruitment team. Ticking lots of boxes.
Think O'Neill has been the one ticking the boxes. We've also developed a harder edge in paying the appropriate amount to our players, not paying a shit load to shit players, and recruiting the appropriate players to the club to fix the glaring holes in our roster.

Btw when do you think Stefano will make his NRL debut? Has anyone seen him playing in the lower grades? Made U20s SOO team so must be fairly good.

If we are after RCG we probably missed out on Welch.
We can afford both can't we? Just think of the salary we'll probably save on just 2 players. Moeroa $500k and MJ $450-500k. Thats almost 2 forwards just there without taking into account the other overpriced players that'll go.

I don’t think it takes a Jack Gibson clone to see our defence it ordinary and needs a great deal of improvement. Hearing the names Welch, RCG and JJ means the club have identified it and are addressing it, or at least attempting to address it.

I mean....Welch is a bit of a plodder. I'm not against signing the guy by any means, but he's hardly a massive improvement either.

He's basically going to be an improved Mannah replacement and competing with Alvaro for a spot (assuming he takes up his option).
Much better than both of those. Alvaro will be playing in SL in 2021.

Doesn’t Blake play on the same side as Manu?

I reckon with Blake there, we don’t need a edge player with the same attacking skill set as Manu, Blake is a great attacking player and there is only so much ball that the edges can get.

Yes it would nice to get another “attacking” player similar to Manu, but we really don’t want to spent “big” on a replacement. A solid edge defender at a reasonable price (maybe with a pass) would be a good option.

I wouId actually look at Salmon as an option, if we can’t find anyone.
Niukore will get better but needs to develop an offload. Actually did his first during Warriors game. Taka was so shocked that he dropped it unfortunately.

Besides given Glens posting patterns and manner, it's pretty clear he is probably a 70 year old grandmother.

Providing the defensive issue is player related. I remain hopeful.
