It really doesn't matter how you dice it with the donkeys, if Boyd is sitting at Red Hill chewing up 800k of cap for the next couple of years, and you count the significant upgrades to keep their pack together, their go forward might well be awesome when all are fit, but their back line, spine and halves will be sub par and their depth will be sorely tested when the inevitable injuries or suspensions occur.

Even if they somehow manage to get Boyd's contract off their books, the problem there is not that they are paying a spine player 800k, it's that they are getting poor value, and if he's gone they need to replace him in the halves or at fullback, and they need to replace him with quality. That's not gonna be cheap.

Now Boyd might take a pay cut, but he aint about to completely walk away from $1.6 million "for the good of the team". Particularly when one considers he's got f**k all chance of ever making up for that kind of loss of income post footy.

A player that seems to maybe need a change is Cohen Hess. Was going great not long ago, not sure what’s happened.

Bit like the whole Cowboys team really... Feels like the coach might have gone stale and some fresh ideas are needed to reinvigorate the group

All those upgrades you have mentioned come into effect next year. So it is irrelevant who they released this year. We don’t know who the Broncos release at the end of this year. That’s what will count. They don’t have to finalize their squad / salary cap until February
Using very rounded figures, they have a squad they are paying $10m to then next year they have almost the same squad, less 2 players they have to replace, and almost all are being paid the same amount or more as this year. IMO they were either well under cap this year, paying severe overs for Roberts/Nikorima or severely backloading Haas and co. Or the salary cap doesn’t apply to #penaltybroncos

Like Panthers did with Merrin and Maloney. Or us with Foran and Watmough?
I reckon some of you guys are over estimating what these Broncos kids will be getting paid. Like I said if Kafusi and Stefano played all this season in NRL they most likely would be talked about as well. Bar Haas who is an exception but was exposed at origin level.
Haas, TPJ and Fafita all had multiple clubs chasing. That would lift their price tags. We’ve reportedly offered $4m contract to Fafita. I assume that’d be 5 years $800k. How much less would he take to stay in Brisbane?

Why would he go to England for less then what he is getting at the donkeys ? Additionally why move away from family for no reason.

Maybe he doesn't want to be around his family.
UK might be a life experience thing.
Who knows. Word is he wont leave.

700k I am guessing.

That $10m figure is completely made up. And like I said they have plenty of time to get their salary cap in order for NEXT YEAR. Roberts is gone so that is prob about 400k freed up. They will release Bird and Boyd (around 800k each) . That's almost 2 million freed up. They might not sign up Glenn or offer him a big reduction so there is a few more available $$. And as you say some of those young players will be back ended. I reckon when Bird and Boyd go they will easily get under the cap even with all their upgrades. I can't see them signing any new stars though.

They can’t just release Bird and Boyd though. Unless those 2 are very generous. I know this isn’t a problem until next year but the fact that 9/10ths of their squad this year will be on the same or more, and the 3 spots that will cost less weren’t their highest 3 players this year indicates its highly likely those players are being massively backended.

The only reason I care is because the seemingly poor cap management means we miss on Fifita

So half a million over 5 years? The only way he recovers that is by gambling on a shorter contract and is offered basically $900k a year in next contract. You reckon the cost of him living in Brisbane compared to Sydney is worth half a mill to him?

Bird isn't happy up there and he'll be less happy if he is stuck in reserve grade. It's not about him being generous. He'll go.

And Boyd is more likely to be generous, will retire , forgo some cash and then later on be employed as an ambassador like Tim Mannah

Bird will play reserves if no one else is willing to pick him up for an agreed value. Ask Jeynolds.

And Boyd’s been playing like he’s been sticking it to them for flicking his dad.
