Bird will play reserves if no one else is willing to pick him up for an agreed value. Ask Jeynolds.

And Boyd’s been playing like he’s been sticking it to them for flicking his dad.

Bird will go for less because he will be out of pocket even more the following years if he spends most of 2020 in QLD Cup. Plenty of teams need a centre.

Josh Reynolds will also take a pay cut and be 100% gone from the Tigers too.

Agreed value. Made more difficult because 3 parties have to agree. Bird isn’t moving for minimum wage if it runs the risk of him just moving reserve grades

Bird on the cheap (broncos paying a chunk of his contract) wouId be a good pick up for us I reckon (assuming he is cleared from his injury), can play edge / centre / halves. Could potentially be a replacement for Manu (not sure which side he plays on), has a good running game.

Think BA chased him last time he was off contract.

Bird isn't happy up there and he'll be less happy if he is stuck in reserve grade. It's not about him being generous. He'll go.

And Boyd is more likely to be generous, will retire , forgo some cash and then later on be employed as an ambassador like Tim Mannah
Bird and Boyd aren't outside their top 17 players. They're just overpaid. Neither will be in reserve grade.

Good point about him playing edge forward.

Yeah Bird has been a bit unlucky with injuries other the last 2-3 years but they have been different injuries. He is still only 24, 25 next year, still pretty young.

Some players have just have a poor run.

Anyhow before his injury this year, he was making 110 m / 5.2 tackle busts per game, pretty decent attacking stats especially after missing a fair chunk of 2018. It was also from centre so he was probably pushing to stay involved and looking for the ball a bit, a good sign.

So half a million over 5 years? The only way he recovers that is by gambling on a shorter contract and is offered basically $900k a year in next contract. You reckon the cost of him living in Brisbane compared to Sydney is worth half a mill to him?

First he has to pay tax so 500k is maybe 350k. If he is loving down here rather then at home he may lose 20k a year rent. Thats 100k. So 250k over 5yrs.
It sounds a lot on its own but when look at 4 million verses 3.5 million or lets say 2.75 vs 3 mill in pocket it is not that much. Especially if your happy and enjoying your football and life.

He has to pay tax on the other $700k as well. The differences between gross and net of tax for the 2 scenarios for him will be identical over 5 years.
And rents only a factor if he’s boarding for free with his parents like some looser. The differences in rent for the properties in Brisbane/Sydney he’d be looking at would be shit all. Or even smarter, if he had 5 year contract, is he throws his 20% to buy a home in downturned Sydney, his income would quickly offset the bugger all interest rate of an owner-occupier mortgage, then in 5 years if he wanted to move back home he could sell it tax free in a likely moving to peak market. He could do that in Brisbane too but the 5 year tax free gains in Sydney will shit over Brisbane
