He’s actually not too dissimilar to Gutho When he came into grade. Didn’t set the world on fire but had a good footy brain.
Agreed but I think Gutho works better as a busy, high involvement player, whereas I don’t think Salmon involves himself enough as it is but also is probably better suited as a strike player anyway. Utilise his running game where he can play 2 or 3 other elements off the back of that. Been said before but he could be a Wade Graham clone

He's listed as 6'2 and 96kgs.

Marata is 6'2 and 104kgs.

I guess that's not too far off considering his age.

EDIT: Matterson is 6'4 and 107kgs

He is similar in size to Wade Graham, who interestingly started his NRL career in the halves too. However just lacked that extra bit of play making skills to be a decent half.

I think he could be an ok edge player (or a fullback perhaps?) but I think he showed yesterday, he’s not really a playmaker

Bit of a jack of all trades, master of none ATM

He is fine in the halves when paired with a dominant half like Moses

If that’s all he brings though, he is miles behind Drown. Or even being a NRL level half

He isn’t ever going to be a “traditional” half like Moses / drown, more the old style “5/8”, that’s why there is talk of him playing edge / centre.

What the f**k are you on about?
He’s replacing Hoffman FFS! Were “plenty” calling for Hoffman to be in side over Mennings? He had a good brief stint and then fell off a cliff. Parry doesn’t have to be a regular FFS. BA isn’t expecting him to be a regular. Anyone with half a brain isn’t expecting him to be a regular.
All we need him to do (and as you say probably after Gennings) is replace those handful of ok fill in games. But more importantly he’s going to be cheaper, meaning we can spend more on actual regulars

Not true.
Mid season people on here wanted MJ gone and Parry given a chance.

And midseason “people” wanted us to sign Jack Hetherington

Edit - and “people” were also saying we should fill out lower squad spots with juniors. I agree with them. I just don’t whinge when it actually happens

Do people seriously still need reminding that Salmon was eligible for Flegg this year?

Deadset... He's spent his career so far dominating numpty teenagers, there's no shame in him taking some time to develop against actual professional footy players. The bloke is clearly a footballer.

I don’t doubt he is. I just doubt it’ll be as a half. The evidence to that is Drown is in a near identical boat

One is a career half since he was knee high to a Chris Sandow, the other wore six because he was always the best player.

I don't know if he'll be a genuine half but he's already better there than Gutho

True.

Arguable.

I just hope we find out his best position this preseason. Cause he’s one of few in squad who has skill that can put genuine pressure on top 17

Yes we know. He is a big boy. I have seen him in training. He could put on 5-7kgs and be a Wade Graheme style of player. Kind of what I see in him.
There are plenty of kids 18-20 who are also ripping the NRL up and made an impact who could be playing 20s.

I dont see enough skill for him to be in halves. But he isn't useless. Coach needs to find his position. Big kid and fast

That may be true, but it's far from making it likely that he'll turn into a regular NRL player. I don't mind him at all, his attitude is good, but I don't see a lot of Wade Graham, for instance, in him. He's obviously not costing us much so the experiment is fine.
