I wonder how much clubs want to spend on their 18th highest paid player. Just about every team every year sees the player with the 18th most appearances playing about a dozen games, which is half the season. Obviously this is not to say that this is necessarily the 18th highest paid player but there needs to be some theoretical baseline for discussion.

You'd need the median to work it out.

We can work out the average salary easy enough, but I suspect it'd be highly skewed by the top quintile

We all know how big he is, and he is fast enough to play in the outside backs in first grade. Since he was a teenager no less. He is certainly as fast and strong as I think he is. His problem is his attitude not his physical ability.
Similarly, he is certainly as slow as I think he is (which you have just assumed I mean a slug) and I never said he was weak. Defence has always been his issue and that is due to his speed, both laterally and in general. He made a name for himself by being able to run over smaller Merkins, which does require strength. However, his effectiveness diminishes somewhat when he's running into equally large bodies in the middle (Tep is a prime example). In my opinion, His workrate both in attack and defence isn't suited to the middle and the reduced impact he'd provide wouldn't be worth a $300k gamble.

I'm sure his speed and agility are at least as good as Taumalolo's. His strength surely isn't as good but what is a poor man's Taumalolo worth? Taumalolo would get $700k or more on the open market.

Yeah I'm sure the mean is a lot higher than the median.

If you took say a seven million cap, that puts the mean at 280k, I wouldn't think it unrealistic that the top five would take up 3 million of that ( average 600k ), and the next five 1.75 million (average 350k ), leaving 2.25 for the remaining 15 if your bottom five are on minimum ( 80k? ) that's 400k leaving 1.85 mill amongst the remaining 10 players. which would likely put the median ( 13th highest paid ) at circa 220k.

18th would then need to sit at around 100-150k give or take.

All assumptions, but i don't reckon it'd be far off.

I know we need probably another back, a half and maybe a hooker but does anything think we need another experienced leader?

Not sure who is out there, and we may not need one, and I am not even sure in what position, but I reckon someone with a bit of experience that has "done everything" would be good for our squad.

Looks fair. I don't think the median would be higher than $200k at most clubs.

I'm not so sure it is.
A poor mans Taumalolo, who is inferior in every way, has been out of the game for 2 years, has attitude problems and left mid contract? Perhaps $150k at a stretch.
