Pearce better than Cronk?
Cronk obviously had a better career, but by the time he joined the Roosters he was a lesser player to Pearce, and worth less money. This was borne out by him setting up fewer tries than Pearce and putting fewer players through gaps. Luckily he was in a team where Tedesco and Keary provided the majority of the attacking punch. Much like through most of his career it was Smith and Slater. Cooper Cronk was never relied on to carry a team, only ever surrounded by stars at both club and Origin level.

Which NRL coach and his general manager of football are at odds over one of the game’s best playmakers. The coach thinks the player is worth $200,000 more than the GM is.
Any ideas?

Gee Moses manager is really getting desperate, leaking all week.

Knows the best option is stay at the eels and other options are shit terrible (will ruin Moses career) but just cant get us to increase our offer...

ffs Moses' manager!

The problem is that similar players at the Storm and Roosters would have re-signed already. But because plenty of players and managers still have the idea that Parra isn't a club you sign with for less, we don't get it that easy. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The only way out of it is to hold our nerve and call a player's bluff. But we have to be prepared to lose him. Over time, with continued success (making the finals) and refusing to whore ourselves to star players, we will become a club that players and managers see as a destination club; places where you go despite bigger offers at the Dogs and Tigers.

If we were offering Staggs $700k surely we can give $100-$150k of that to Moses and still have $550k + for a quality outside back

I don’t reckon we are offering Staggs $700k...as if we were we wouId be talked up in the media as a good chance of signing him as it matches the broncos offer....

I wonder how much Staggs is even worth. He's probably the best attacking centre in the game but a centre is only worth so much. He still needs inside attackers to create space for him.

Are there any available that are worth that much?
Melbourne don't seem to prioritise the centre position and it's served them well. Maybe we have stumbled upon the best solution. Solid players in Opey and Marata with enough speed, good D and a good link men. True we lack speed but maybe Fergos replacement will provide same. We also have Waqa who hopefully improves. I don't believe we ever got value for money out of Mennings.

we aren’t any where near that as we can’t develop players. If we lose Moses I think we will end up a bottom 6 team.

No guarantee this is Moses but it may well be.
It's painfully obvious our recruitment and retention has dramatically improved since this responsibility became a committee decision and not solely the coaches decision. If it is Parra It's not the first time BA and MON have clashed and that's not necessarily a bad thing. We are becoming a big picture club finally apart from BAs total control of all things associated with coaching which still seems a bit odd. Then again how much do we really know?

Honestly it would not phase me losing Moses. The last thing we want to do is bow down to his manager.

He does not deserve more then 800-850k. He has not lead us deep into the finals and has not played State of origin or for Australia.

He can take what we have offered or leave. If we hold strong he will sign. There is too much damage it can do to his career going to a lower club.

I'd personally if I were him take the player option, play my guts out and get us to deep into the finals and the come back to the table next year. Not like he is currently after playing a few good games.

You’re hanging your hat on this “leak” being factual. As others have said, it’s more likely that it’s BS spun by his (banned) manager.

Agree with this. Merkins at Souths are like “just get it done” re Reynolds. The guy is on $1m per year and it’s like it won’t impact the cap at all if they give him 3 more years x $1m.

Reynolds wants around 3 x $700K it was reported, but he will take around 2 x $700K. That is why it is ludicrous what Souths are doing if this is true.
