This is true. There is always someone out. Greig could come on leaps and bounds in one off season. So could Hollis. These guys remember missed last year due to rona.
From the little I have seen, Hollis reminds me of Kevans ..... Emu surprised me with his motor, I thought he would last 7 mins and drop dead - I would like to see more of him

I think Woods was always a bit overrated - and he went downhill when he went to the dogs and got mentally f**ked around .... he is a solid player still and would be useful at the right price

EAGLES, EELS EYE WOODS

Manly and Parramatta have made a play for prop Aaron Woods after he was told by incoming Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon he isn’t wanted for next season.

The Sea Eagles and Eels have both spoken to Woods this past week as they seek to bolster their respective forward packs for 2022. Fitzgibbon had a face-to-face meeting with Woods to let him know the Sharks were “moving in a different direction” next year.

Woods, who is in the final year of a three-year deal worth $600,000 annually, is understood to have offered to stay at Cronulla for just $180,000 next year, but Fitzgibbon was clear there was no space for him.

Woods, 30, can expect to earn more than $200,000 wherever he lands next; a big pay-cut from where he’s at but still enough to keep him in Australia and attempt to reignite his career under a new coach.

Does anyone here really believe this?

No thanks to woods. We should be looking to the future not the past
If we don't have a prop who is ready to step up and we want to pinch a young bull from another club, how much do you think that would cost ? How much did the Tigers have to pay for Stefano ?

Hollis, Kye Rodwell and Emu might do well with an off season under their belts, but are they first graders ? Can they hold their own for 4 weeks if we have injuries / suspensions ?

If we can afford a lazy $200-300K for Woods, I would rather add that doe to whatever else we have and try and secure the services of a very, very fast centre or winger ether established or so freaking good in the juniors that it would take a bit to nab him.

We really need some genuine strike out wide that can turn a, currently zero chance, into a real chance. All our recruitment efforts should be in this area at present. Our forwards definitely are not our problem. Our roster is settled more or less and more then capable bar centres and wingers. We need almost an overhaul in this area.

The Panthers for example don't have great depth in their front row, but they still seem to be doing OK. The Roosters for years had a stellar top 19 or so players and then dropped off considerably and they managed to do OK too.

Having heaps of depth is fools gold. With the salary cap, you need to get the best 17 or so players you can and then hope injuries are kind to you. Once you start recruiting for depth, you lose overall quality to the first 17 starting side, even when at full strength. Juniors are where you should be focusing on to always replenish from. We now have a great 19 or so players. Juniors, juniors, juniors, should be our mantra.

We need to add real strike and quality to our centres and wing position. We need to comb the lower grades like a blood hound and splash out for the best one or two juniors out there and spend to get them. Get them to break contract if they have to. Do whatever it takes. It was a major blunder that we didn't go after Suaalii when he was disgruntled with the Bunnies. The bunnies would have done anything to not see him sign with the Roosters, so us coming in and being a strong club and in his local area where he is anyway, I think that it would have been a real possibility. The bunnies would have helped us with that. Remember he signed for the Rooster on a fraction of what he was asking for from the Rabbits.

Anyway, we need to get that type of quality in our outside backs roster. We don't need anymore average types. We have enough of those and we won't be winning a title with more of the same.

Hollis has a huge motor. He doesn't have impact or power of a Kafusi. But could play very long minutes. I'm not sold on him yet. He is one of those guys who may or may not work out. Similar type to an Alex Twal. I'd be surprised if Hollis was much more then an average NRL prop. Big and works hard but doesn't seem to have the power to make much of an impact.

Our starting forwards aren’t the problem, but both starting props are genuine rep contenders, Marata isn’t an out and out prop, Oregon isn’t a starter at this stage and Greig still needs a bit of work, so I think we need one more prop for the games when RCG or Paulo aren’t available. A David Gower type

That doesn’t go with you saying we need to sign XYZ because ABC are shit. Nor does it generally gel with:

Some front rowers take time. Dave missed a year of development last year which didnt help.

Then his family lost their farm at the start of the year due to floods so i think that was difficult for him at start of the year being a country boy and his parents losing everthing they worked for their whole life across one weekend.

Then he has had a ankle issue in the past 6 weeks trying to manage hence limited game time.

I am confident big davey will come good especially after club re-signed him for 2 years.

This is pretty much what every club's MO is.

What makes it difficult is roster management. A little thing called the salary cap prevents any club from buying up all the best youngsters, look at the trouble Panthers have had and how many left end of last season. They had a decent roster but they dont all fit into first grade.

Clubs like Storm, Bunnies and Chooks seem to be able to attract good young players without offering big bucks. I think out roster management has improved since MON got onboard and we have better depth and bench compared to last season but its not just a matter of saying we should buy up more good juniors.

We got some decent young backs now but we gotta see how they develop and if they are good enough we have to make room for them, otherwise we lose them.

Its a balancing act.

In a trial earlier innyear I was very impressed. But I saw at Nsw cup level and guys like Stone,Greig, Makataoa looked a level above him.
He is young I guess.
