Lol. Gagai = 2yr Max and 350k Max
I we could offload Waqa, Gagai would be a good option at the right price. Is better than average at centre and wing and could switch around as needed when juniors are ready for a few weeks up.

Blake has been very good of late. He set up the first trynwith a tap back. He created the penalty to give Moses chance to win game. He is running the ball hard. He is dangerous.

Are we getting value out of his big $$ contract ?

This is true, however in the context of last week, Fergo would have been more aggressive than Dunster, however Haze definitely made better decisions in D. With respect to Waqa on the wing, what does he bring other than his ability with the high ball ? Wondering out loud why Waqa is being considered for the wing ? Is he likely to be better than Haze ? Is shifting Waqa improving the side ?

a lot depends on whether Will is ready or not (for 2022), if he is, I can’t see Blake / Opacic being dropped. Thus one needs to play on the wing. I just reckon Blake has the best skill set out of them for winger.

He is big/powerful enough for rucking (better the Dunster) it out, plus is good in the “air”. Regarding rucking it out, it’s hard to judge just on him playing centre and not doing it enough. As a winger he is forced to drop back (where centre’s aren’t), thus he will be in the position to ruck it out on tackle 1 or 2.

Plus his speed is probably something we could use on the wing a bit more (how many times has Sivo been in the space but doesn’t score).

Additionally in Will’s NSW cup games he has made good metres potentially showing more effort to get involved then Blake does (thus wing forces more involved for Blake).

the biggest issue is defence, but reckon we could work on that. Potentially put Blake with Opacic on the right (thus giving the right more attacking options ).

BA was also planning on playing Blake wing in the finals last year so there must be some indication he wouId go ok there.

I thought Russel in his first game showed more then Dunster.
Yes but Dunster in his 1st game showed more than Fergo.
It’s a choice that can go wildly either way because ranking each of them for potential best is likely a mirror image of their potential worst

On Russell, yeah it was only the dogs and only 1 game, but he rucked it out better then I expected.

He just seem to run it to the opposition line quicker, allowing for a few more metres. Plus wasnt pushed back. He seems to have that build / speed which is hard to defend against. Plus he has some speed / potential X factor.

obviously wasn’t the greatest debut of all time but just something about it / him.

The Broncos baulked at Gagai’s initial request of a three-year deal at $1.8 million while Newcastle and Parramatta are also in the picture.

I wouldn't sign Gagai for anything more then 250-300k a season. The guy has been very average and on the decline this season and only getting older. We need to scout and raid another clubs best junior/s outside backs. If we are thinking of offering Gagai anything over 300k we have rocks in our heads. Hell the more I think about it, I wouldn't offer him more then 150k, take it or leave it. Even when he was playing well, at club level this guys is a yoyo. 2-3 games quiet and 1 decent. That is not the type of player I want us to be interested in. If this is BA's little fetish then he needs to be told to take his hand off it and look elsewhere. We will not be winning premierships with Gagai in the team.

Period.

Not saying that we should sign him for overs, but suggesting that he's only worth $150k is crazy AF. Fringe NRL players like Salmon would get that.

He's a 30yo current origin player with 200+FG games, 7 Kangaroo games and 18 origins. He's certainly not a washed croc up like Inglis etc, as he has played 23 + NRL games every year since 2013.

he did look like a line breaker, very good acceleration and a good step

I've watched a bit of him n NSW cup and he slices them up the middle pretty well from FB

I think he's a better option than Dunster

At his age he's in for a pay cut, but he's still worth more than most outside backs. I think $300k is about right, but no longer than a year or two. Maybe $200k for the second year.

Read between the line. In other words I don't want him at our club. I can't see us winning a premiership with him in the backline. If we had a stellar attacking backline already like say the the Bunnies do, then sure, he can do a job, but we don't. What we need is a potent weapon. He is hardly in that category at this stage of his career.

Whoever we add to our backline roster at this stage of proceedings should be a weapon or at least the potential to develop into one. Gagai is just more of the same and maybe even a backward step by next season.

Agreed. He will probably be the best outside back that we have developed in quite some time. Doesn't say much though since the cupboard has been so bare of late. But I think he will be a very good one.

Pou

We extended Michael Jennings on just under $900k for 2 seasons. Gagai is worth at least that if not $500k a season.

I think Gagai is a good option. He's the only real decent back on the market. I think BA is bringing him in for his experience as well as his skill which is missing in our backline since Jennings. Penisini probably needs another year of development in reserve grade imo. Opacic is only signed for 22 and that's probably cause BA wants to give Penisini more time to develop etc, he's only being playing cup this year and the more time he has there the better he'll be. My predicted backline for 22:

1. Gutho

2. Sivo

3. Opacic

4. Gagai

5. Blake
