We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to get Wayne Bennett.

Bennett at his stage in life is wanting to get back to Brisbane eventually and is not looking for a long term gig. Our window is now and the stars are aligning ever so briefly.

Very rarely does an opportunity come up to coach at a Top 6 side. Bennett will only stay in Sydney for a potential contender. This is his only shot in the immediate two years.

There is enormous similarity with us and when he went to the Dragons. Most of the hard work has been done. We just need someone who can take us one step further

Bennett knows this has so many similarities when Jack Gibson came here.

Stars don't align very often...

didn't anyone read his resume
Kidwell oversaw a brief but embarrassing era for New Zealand Rugby League in which they lost two World Cup matches to tier-2 nations, and fluked a draw against another in the 2016 Four Nations tournament. A series of critical failures in team culture and management led to disappointing results and a mass exodus of players. One notable player to leave the team was Jason Taumololo. Taumololo defected to Tonga, who defeated New Zealand in a World Cup pool match. Kidwell was replaced by Michael Maguire after failing to make the semi-finals of the 2017 World Cup.[13]

In 2018, Kidwell was appointed as assistant coach at one of his former clubs The Parramatta Eels.[14]

Jeez I had forgotten about all that. And of course we went and hired him. He could never threaten the coaches position with that exemplary record hanging over his head. Perfect candidate.

I think he was coach of the abused wifes 3 aside L Grade Oztag premiers in that controversial season where all other teams (3) had hairdresser appointments and had to withdraw. Such a proud moment. Go Murph! You da man!
Murph front loads his effort area’s and chasing the collisions like a mad merkin but.

Maybe he should've coached at bigger clubs?
Well actually had Murphy been an assistant coach at any other club he would've had a better record (or the same record had he been at the Tigers or the Knights the entire time). Turns out he has two wins in Final games as an assistant coach (Titans 2010, Parra 2019).

In the 15 years Murphy has been an assistant coach, every other club has won at least two Finals games, except for the clubs that he has been with. The Titans won one Finals game in 2010, and although Parra has one six Finals games in Murphy's illustrious 15 year career, only one of those has been since 2009 (2019). Of course, in his 15th year he will have an opportunity to add to his record.

Here are the numbers below for Finals wins 2007 to 2020:
Storm 24
Roosters 15
Manly 13
Cowboys 11
Broncos 9
Souths 9
Sharks 7
Dogs 7
Raiders 7
Panthers 6
Parra 6
Warriors 4
Dragons 4
Tigers 2
Knights 2
Titans 1

If you break this down further, in the time Murphy was at the Titans, every other club except for one (Panthers), won more Finals games than his club did. So he could've been at 14 other clubs and had a better record, he didn't need to be at bigger clubs.

His record improves since he has been at Parra, with four other teams not having won a Finals game (Warriors, Tigers, Knights and Titans) and one other winning the same (Dragons). So that is still 10 other clubs he could've been at and he would've had a better record. Would you really consider the likes of the Sharks (5 wins), Raiders (5 wins), and Cowboys (8 wins) bigger clubs than Parra though who have won considerably more Finals games whilst he has been at Parra?

Face it Pou Bear, his record is atrocious. He's a perennial loser.
