I wonder how many understand that this feeds into an overall calculation that any player who leaves (and thus frees up cap space) allows us to improve other areas of the squad.

All the good teams have good hookers and the poor teams have poor ones, that is how important they are. He'll be irreplaceable in the short term and it doesn't matter what money you spend elsewhere the team won't improve unless we have a good hooker. Maybe BA is factoring in that they'll lose Reed and have bought that young player on board, he'll should be ready by '23.

Point taken, but I think Reed will be hard to replace if he goes. Why can't we buy topline test players like other clubs do though? Is it bad management, bad scouting, do we not enwuire, or don't they want to play for us. The players you mention are all forwards, aoart from Gutho. Imo we desperately need speed in the backline. Plus we need another winger I reckon. Time will tell what hapoens I guess.

We have speed now with the huge improvement in Waqa and Peninisi replacing Opacic. Dunster is improving and hopefully Sivo will come back with a different body shape (having dropped 10kg) and will be quicker. None are express but all will be quick. Our halves on the other hand are express particularly Dyl, doubt any team has 2 halves as quick as ours.

Looks a good buy, very elusive, quick and with a good skill set. Is he aboriginal as we don't have enough of them at our club imo?

I reckon he will stay. The pecking order of Jrthur over Rankin is now set in stone so why tamper with it. If Rankin goes I doubt hed be replaced. God forbid if something happens to Moses and Jrthur Im sure Stoney could slot in.

I am not a finance guy. Not sure what he would be worth on the open market. We will soon know I guess. All I know is, he is a good little player, and I think we will rue him leaving, if it happens

My comment still stands. The winger might not be a good fb but he'd be an even worse hooker. Hooker has become a very important & specialist position, just about as important as a half these days.

The problem is the defensive requirements in the middle. There would be dozens of merkins who would be effective NRL quality dummy halves just like there's dozens of good middle defenders. There are just relatively few players who are both.
