ADAM Reynolds has committed his future to Souths – but only because he priced himself out of Parramatta’s reach.

Reynolds signed a long-term deal with the Rabbitohs last week, but for a long while was eager to leave the club and have a fresh start.

The 26-year-old wanted a three-year deal at the Eels – $600,000 the first season, $800,000 the second and a cool $1 million the third.

Parramatta rated Reynolds and were desperate to sign him as a replacement for Kieran Foran, but not for that kind of money.

The 26-year-old recently signed a four-year extension at the Rabbitohs that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2021.

All i can say is lol@50uff$, massive overs for a one dimensional half.
Is $800k (average) for the current state of origin halfback really massive overs though? Particularly one who is an exceptional goal kicker? Don't forget this contract will also include the likely cap increase in 2018. I think that's about right.

Dunno if they paid him that much?? Probably not ... he was probably just fishing for more

I reckon 600, 700, 800 would have been fair ... or even an extra 50k each of those years

Just because he somehow got to play Origin doesn't make him a state of Origin half. He has a good kicking game and can tackle thats about it. Plus has been injury prone of late.

Yep, and these days that's pretty much what you need in a halfback. If he was a bit more creative he'd be in the elite category and commanding >$1mil. I'd say he's probably worth similar to Norman at this stage as they both possess skills that the other lacks. They'd actually compliment each other quite well.

I wouldn't swap Norman for Reynolds, Reynolds would compliment Normy pretty well but you could get someone to do that for a lot less then what Reynolds is chasing.

Really? Who did you have in mind? I reckon Hunt would be asking $700-$800 and he doesn't goal kick.

I wouldn't swap Norman for Reynolds either by the way, but that doesn't mean they're value on the open market isn't similar.

Well it looks like that person will be Guth next season, if we do well which i think we can it would be saving plenty to add to the rest of the squad.

Mate, I can certainly agree with this. We'll be fine with Guth in the halves. I was just saying that I thought $800k is fair value for Reynolds.

Agreed. I'd also argue that $800k is the upper limit of what Norman is worth and by all reports he got close to that.
Yeah I'd agree with that. Norman is high quality but not an elite playmaker. His defence is good but short kicking game is very average, except when Latrell Mitchell is fullback.

As you said, Adam Reynolds' exceptional kicking game (including goal kicking) pushes an otherwise ordinary halfback into Corey Norman's pay grade.

How much would Gutherson be on next year? Surely no more than $300k. But if he does a decent job as a limited-role supporting half (like Morgan at the Cowboys) how much will he command beyond 2017? I wouldn't think he would get double what he's currently on but you never know.

If he does a decent job I think he will certainly be asking around the $600k mark. He will be a competent half and can play anywhere in the backline. That's pretty rare and he can apparently goal kick as well. If it works out he'd be a perfect signing for us as it still allows a pathway for an up-and-comer like Dargan or Barnsey if they warrant selection, without having to release him or play him in reggies.
