He will absolutely be wanting 600k if he makes a good fist of playing in the halves ... and there's a fair chance he might have goal kicking as an extra skill on the resume ... tho semi might be having a crack too

How much would Gutherson be on next year? Surely no more than $300k. But if he does a decent job as a limited-role supporting half (like Morgan at the Cowboys) how much will he command beyond 2017? I wouldn't think he would get double what he's currently on but you never know.
Yeah I reckon 500k- 600 would pretty fair for a bloke that can play anywhere in the backline.

My gut feeling is that Semi may not be available in 2017... even if I'm wrong, he's off contract for 2018 and I suspect he will head elsewhere.
Do we get salary cap discount if semi is suspended ( or in gaol )? Or is his contract just torn up?

I'm not sure how it worked with Robert Lui... but I'd imagine under similar circumstances the club/NRL would issue the sanction, and we would get dispensation under the cap to have someone else join our top 25, without breaching our NRL or our secondary salary caps?

The club looks to have done a good job imo of recruiting just ion case Semi is absent in 2017, or in case he leaves elsewhere for 2018.

If you can terminate the player's contract without a payout then they are completely off your cap. it's always the payout (if any) - negotiated with the player but only if he has a leg to stand on - that remains on your cap.

As much as I distrust the current NRL merkins, no club will be stuck with a player's payments if they're banned from playing. Only problem is knowing whether that's going to happen and planning for it.

That is true if the NRL de-registers the player. But if you just get suspended for, say, 12 weeks, the club still has to pay the player and the payments affect the cap. The club can then fine the player in accordance with their contract, but the fine doesn't reduce the cap expenditure.

Is $800k (average) for the current state of origin halfback really massive overs though? Particularly one who is an exceptional goal kicker? Don't forget this contract will also include the likely cap increase in 2018. I think that's about right.

He got dropped, so he's not the current Origin half.

He is an excellent player at NRL level, just so steady and occasionally outstanding, but I'd baulk at $800k. Probably would consider $500k average over 3 years... The thing is that most of the decent halves are Queenslanders, so being picked for NSW is almost done by default 'he's a half, give him a go'

Well it looks like that person will be Guth next season, if we do well which i think we can it would be saving plenty to add to the rest of the squad.

His kicking game will be the issue, he needs to get one in the offseaon.

I'd be getting Brett Kimmorley on board as a specialist halves and goal kicking coach.

Rightly or wrongly, there is no way Adam Reynolds is worth only 500K a season... he is worth whatever a club is willing to pay him and if you consider that Trent Hodkinson is on something like 600K at Newcastle, Reynolds would have no trouble attracting offers somewhere north of that IMO. With the cap increasing in the coming seasons also, I think somewhere in the 700K mark come 2018-2019 would be about as low you'd get him for... Injuries aside he's a premiership winning half with a superior kicking game and 80-odd odd percent goal kicker...

Assume your are referring to Reynolds ?

He wasn't dropped, he was ruled out due to an injury for that last game.
