So imagine the stupidity involved in not selecting a player unavailable for selection.

This club is a clusterf**k, and it's all on BA.

Don’t believe the Gazza hype on Rankin. He wasn’t significantly, if at all, performing better than Jrthur when Jrthur was given 1st game.
Rankin is also a 30 year old journeyman makeshift half. I’d much prefer to give the young upcomer the one-off game.
And ignoring the revisionism, Jrthur’s 1st game was pretty good.

Given a longer string of games, his weaknesses were always going to get shown and exploited. But dropping him then wouldn’t be good for his development regardless of his surname.
Perhaps for the second stint, an older journeyman would’ve been the safer direction, but by then Rankin decided not to bubble.

I respect Rankin’s decision but pretty sure @Gazzamatta suggested couple of days ago that to be successful we need more players that bleed for the team. Seems like Rankin’s priorities weren’t helping the team succeed.

I reckon he realised it was a waste of time going to QLD and not get a game. JA was first reserve half, WS would have been second choice and probably Ray F'n Stone would have got a run in 6 or 7 before Rankin.

I also thought it was weird that Jordan Rankin didn't get a game at some stage. Didn't even travel up to QLD.
That is the guy and I am sorry I can never remember his name.
He is a pretty good footballer and he was like Wally Lewis in reserves while Jake Arthur was like Stu Galbraith. That has to count for more than your dad being the first grade coach.
It is also dubious that JA got a contract while Will Smith did not.

I only saw the trial against St George and thought Rankin went OK.

Easy to bag out the JR decision in hineysight but I'm sure there were valid reasons for him not getting 1st crack. If he'd gone up to QLD we may well have seen him play at some stage and we might have been able to settle the debate once and for all.

I think it was his choice.
Didn't want to put family through another isolation/quarantine situation.
Or he knew he wasn’t a chance to be picked ahead of the coaches son??? Why bother moving your family up to QLD to ride the bench???

I had no problem with him getting a run in Magic round with Moses there as the dominant half but as soon as he was made the dominant half and given the keys to the side with Moses out it was absolute BS. And not what was best for the team but for team Arthur.

I don't know if you saw any reserve grade but I saw 2 games and Rankin was easily our best player in both those games and Jake was totally ordinary in the 2 reserve grade games I saw.

Well those that watched without an agenda would only agree with you.
Obviously JA is more about the future. I hope the kid succeeds as there will be a load of pressure on him.

Agreed. I hope he is a superstar half of the future for us (or at least that someone is - I don't care if it is him personally).
I am actually going to put all my wishing, hoping and praying into Dylan Brown finding a couple extra yards of pace/acceleration and a big improvement as a ball player for 22.

Jake arthur jokes are due to the fact there is no way he would have gotten games in 21 except that his dad was coach this year. He is massively unready, possibly even just no good.
That bald headed halfback in reserve grade is a way way better player than him.
the attacks aren’t against him but rather his dad and also the club for allowing his dad to be stupid.

BA never selected him, he said in an interview when it came to his son he left his assistants to make the calls.

So you’re ok with Jrthur getting the magic round game but believe that off the back of that Rankin thought he was zero chance of playing so decided to not go into bubble?
Again I ask, do we need a player unwilling to fight for a spot in our squad?
I’ve got no qualms about Rankins choice but you lot making him out as the messiah when fans everywhere else call him Jordan Rancid need some perspective. Jrthur may prove to be no better, or even worse, than Rankin, but last season neither of them were ever going to be the tipping point on 2nd week/3rd week and certainly not premiership

Dear Mrs Rankin,
T-Boon agrees with you.
That’s enough for any NRL fan to admit they were wrong.
