Mark Simon: Tamworth teen chasing Parramatta deal

Mark Simon was working on his old Toyota Hilux on Sunday morning while buzzing on a brand-new experience that has reignited his quest to become an NRL player.

The Tamworthian, 18, is in the midst of a train-and-trial offer at Parramatta after failing to land a new deal with Canterbury.
He will soon return to Sydney - where his housemates at the so-called Eels House include Moree's Jock Brazel - for two trials that he hopes will lead to a contract and SG Ball action this year.

"The Bulldogs didn't end up working out, but that's life," said the 2021 NSW Country under-18 representative. "But I'm at Parramatta now, which is pretty cool."

The Farrar graduate's adjustment to living away from home for the first time has been aided by Brazel's presence.
Simon had a prior relationship with the Emerging Blues squad member that includes them playing together in Greater Norther Tigers and NSW Country under-16 teams in 2019.

Having Brazel by his side had "helped out a lot", he said, adding that the Moree product has shown him the ropes in Sydney.
"I'm not much of a city boy myself; I'm a bit more of a country boy," he said. "It [city life] took a bit getting used to, but I'm starting to get used to it now."
In fact, Simon said "it doesn't get much better than that", in reference to living at Eels House. "They're great people I'm living with, and it's a great atmosphere as well. I'm lovin' it."
The landscape gardener is working as a greenkeeper in Sydney while training his "arse off" and "hoping" he does enough to land a contract.

"I'll try and get as far as I can with my football ... I could be down there [Sydney] for a year; I could be down there for the rest of my life - you never know.
"I've just gotta try it while I'm young - that's it."
Legend. 👍

Relocation Tasmanian tigers

The first smug comment of the new year. Another first for lu.

I heard the mighty roar at the homecoming at ivan stadium for the trainers who won the finals
game for you v eels. They got to lift the trophy first, before handing it to Tyrone and kiks.

Heres my holiday photo of birds especially for Tyrone, bruverlee of Nate.

I’m surprised the locals haven’t killed them all yet. Bbq pelican and a slab of 4x dry. Leftovers for Colin the blue heeler.

Yup, that’s it.

That hurricane thing from f**king Queensland, beaches are closed, king tides threatening roads, perfect storm conditions and most shops closed because a lot of locals are on holidays to avoid us tourists.

What was sold to us in Sydney all year:

Versus

What we are actually getting:

Tomorrow there’s a good chance of a flash flood and an evacuation. An adventure themed vacation. The kids won’t buy it, but it might get them off their phones. Fun for the whole family.

..and the shops that are open seem to have cut a deal with NRL stadium catering management.

I can’t wait to get home, counting the seconds to get back to the relative comfort of the misery of work.

Might take in the sun of Antartica next year.

Dodged a bullet imo, take away the fact he is obviously a deadshit off the field but he’s a very average footballer on it as well imo.

Typical player who looks a world beater at the Storm goes to a new club and plods. Raiders fans couldn’t wait to see the back of him.

I would much rather give an opportunity to some of the young talent we have coming through.

I think Sam Loizou to me looks a perfect Centre project for the coaching staff. Looks like he has put on a lot of size in the off season, his background playing in the halves should help him also.

Agree 100%, he’s a major f**kwit and we dodged a bullet.

The NSW police have it in for this kid because he exposed them for being bad eggs.
I would say they know they are zero chance of proving a DV allegation from 3 years ago beyond reasonable doubt. It would be almost unheard of for police to lay a charge for DV allegations that are that old. But they can ruin him anyway.
I would be fine with Parra signing him but I doubt he is any good.
