Size isn’t necessarily the main or only factor with kick returns. Fergo’s best asset there wasn’t his size but his ability to get between defenders. Sivo’s best returns he’d do the same, the ones where he gets whacked by 3/4 tacklers, he gets f**ked. Size helps but if not used correctly it’s no different to a Bevan French taking a hitup

Russel looks better then Dunster long term. But I still feel he needs 5kgs to be any good in the NRL. I'm sure he can do a job and is a smart player. 2023 will be more likely a NRL product.
The little I've seen Sam Laizou looks physicaly more ready

The way I see it BA has a few options. Most depend if he wants to keep Blake at centre. If not he can bring Opacic in. Or come rnd 2 move Marata.
Sivo is probably back around rnd 10-12.

Other options might be JA on the bench and Marata at centre. Then move Brown there for 25mins and give JA some time.

Laizou onto the wing. He looks strong and a possible option for sure.
Russel. This seems most logical and the most likely. Just if we are lacking go forward then BA may need to make some changes in future weeks.

I actualy do no mind the Marata option at centre. Our depth in the forwards is strong. JA may give the side a bit of difference in attack for the final 25mins.

If maka or one of the young forwards really impress, i too would have marata on the left edge.

Actually, it may be bailey who misses out

Marata at centre means he takes more charges early when getting out of own end. There is no rule the winger must take them.
Simminson and Russel however are not small. They just are not big. Id say both are in the middle.

It kinda is a rule. If your centres are taking early runs from kick returns, then they are either out of position (I.e. fielding the kicks - may as well play them on wing) or busting their ass to get back for the second run (sounds good in theory but they’d also be tiring themselves out doing what in other teams is someone else’s job) or third run (so 2 out of back 3 have already taken runs)

There's no rule, but the first two runs after a kick set the tone for the whole set, and both these runs are generally taken by wingers or fullback. The only time someone defending in the line would be back in time to take the second run after a long kick would be if the first play-the-ball was very slow.

Merkin should've been pressuring the kicker. Though I suppose some players are just that relentless that they can be flat stick every moment of the game and consistently get back for carry two. How many merkins with that work rate are also effective making hit ups into the middle of the defence. Like you imply, Clyde was special for a reason.
