We don’t need him. Russell will be our rookie of the year.

As good as I think Russell will be, at this stage I don't think he or Simonsson have the power to consistently take the pressure off our forwards when returning the ball from kick returns. I think we will struggle at this this year and it could effect our forwards power and fitness as the year progresses as the season unfolds. Especially if we end up playing exactly the same one dimensional forwards hitup game we are renowned for. We will need more creativity then we did the last couple of years if we want to do better towards the backend of the season. Even more necessary then before now that we don't have two bulls on the flanks like we used to.

Even when Sivo comes back, who knows what shape he will be in power wise and even speed wise? He is coming back from a total ACL knee reconstruction and they are notorious for many athletes needing a full season of game time to feel comfortable and strong enough to do what they used to. How many people here think that Sivo is the type to come back all guns a blazing? Not to mention that he wasn't the quickest before his injury, so I wonder what his speed will be like now?

Yeah I think he’ll be fine too. He just needs to survive the first dozen rounds whilst other teams pepper him and try and find his weaknesses. I noticed in the few games he played last year, teams just loved putting it up high and smashing him. TBH it’s not something I like about our game. Wingers a sitting ducks under those kicks and worse now as decoys or blockers are penalised.

Same as when Gutho first joined. They peppered him and he dropped them consistently.

However, Guth, with hours of training fixed that.

I'm sure Russell has the same attitude as guth has and he will fix it.

He debut last year but.
There’s a rule however that if you play less than 5 games in the NRL you can still be Rookie of the year the following year. Pretty sure Haze won ours last year after playing in the semi versus South’s in 2020.

This is the rule:

Who is eligible for the Rookie of the Year?
Players are eligible for the Rookie of the Year in their debut season and the subsequent two NRL seasons. Once a player plays five (5) NRL Premiership matches (or English Super League matches), he becomes ineligible for the Rookie of the Year in any subsequent seasons.

Russell looks tall and not small atm but will fill out as he ages. Happens to all of us.

He's certainly got a distinctive 'high' running style. Reminds me of some player from back in the day. Perhaps a bit like Brett Mullins without the arm pumping (though might also be a bit of Stuart 'wingnut' Davis)
