Yeah I think he’ll be fine too. He just needs to survive the first dozen rounds whilst other teams pepper him and try and find his weaknesses. I noticed in the few games he played last year, teams just loved putting it up high and smashing him. TBH it’s not something I like about our game. Wingers a sitting ducks under those kicks and worse now as decoys or blockers are penalised.

You just gotta be smart about it, luai and Munster get away with it nearly every kick

Merkin should've been pressuring the kicker. Though I suppose some players are just that relentless that they can be flat stick every moment of the game and consistently get back for carry two. How many merkins with that work rate are also effective making hit ups into the middle of the defence. Like you imply, Clyde was special for a reason.
Brandon Smith is that sort of player but rarely plays 80 mins

I still like the idea of an option for a player to receive a fine or suspension come finals. Miss a semi final or lose 30k for example.

I'd prefer that they just treated finals as worth more than a regular season game. Maybe worth 3-4 normal games. And the GF more again.
Substitute the Dunster/Fuimaono incident from trial to final round and both team advancing to finals. Sure maybe it’s not “fair” to Fuimaono to miss finals but it isn’t like it’s fair to Dunster to have his finals taken away with zero recourse. And then there’s recidivism, so is it fair to Fuimaono’s finals opponents to be put at risk of a similar incident just because it wasn’t fair to suspend him?
The one thing I really dislike with this change is it appears to add even more subjectivity to what I reckon is already the most subjective sport in world.

Can't imagine why Cam would be against this

Old Man Bricky doesn't work under a have a salary cap. Doesn't lay bricks in a public competition that can be supported monetarily and viewed both in massive arena's and on screens all over the world. Lets face it some professions are a different beast and sport is one of those. That's why for example France has different rules in regards to entertainers and tax exemptions and sport falls under that and why someone like Semi Radradra pays next to no tax.

The point is Old man Bricky doesn't have any of that. There is no scrutiny by anyone bar maybe his misses and the tax man on how much or how little his pay cheque is. Smith himself and his mates were caught rorting the salary cap at least twice and stripped of the title because of it but in the process deprived two other teams and hundreds of thousands of their supporters of the same glory they celebrated and partied in. And to this day it is still a very bitter pill for thousands of those fans to swallow, which he seems to be oblivious to.

No professional sport is not like any other profession and there are many rules and regulations that all athletes MUST abide by or are deemed to be cheating and taking an unfair advantage over their opponents. Disclosing their salaries is just another step in the process that allows all the people(fans) that help generate those massive wages that sports people like Smith received and could sign two contracts simultaneously, see what is actually being paid out by the club.

After all wasn't one of the main arguments by players like Smith that they didn't know what was going on and how could they when they don't know what all their mates are getting paid? In other words they were in the dark because salaries are PRIVATE. Well lets make them public you plonker. That way as a simple example, if the club salary cap is $13m and you have 13 players on a $1m each it is all sweet right? But if one of those players is actually receiving $1.2m in total payments and only the $1m is being disclosed, well then he and his manager would instantly know he is helping the club cheat the salary cap. Right? So if he and or his manager didn't report it immediately then if caught they could be both be fined, suspended or band for life depending how bad it was and or damaged the competition results or if the ultimate Premiers had to be struck off the record books.

The players managers especially would and should be able to scrutinise all the clubs and the salaries. They could do their job properly and earn their money and part of that would be assessing each clubs salaries and making sure it was all kosher. If the maths doesn't add up then report it. None of these plonkers would have much of an excuse anymore.

P.S.
All the salaries and sponsor contributions and whatever else each player receives needs to be made public for this to work this way, otherwise the players and managers will still have enough wiggle room to duck and weave out of it if caught doing the wrong thing. Also if everything is disclosed then even passionate and zealous fans could work it out and help the ARLC keep the competitions integrity honest and secure. Millions of eyes would be all over it and making comments. Good and bad. But the point is if there were any irregularities we would all know it and it would then be discussed and sorted one way or another. It would be exceedingly difficult for anyone to plead ignorance(and be believed or get away with it) if caught doing the wrong thing. Kind of like drug cheats. They can plead innocent till they are blue in the face, but no one believes them and the penalties can be harsh but fair if they need to be.

Well said. Although I’m bit on fence about publicising TPA amounts. Salary cap affecting ones 100% yes - they’d just be lumped in with total amount paid to player. But ones not on salary cap, in an ideal fairyland, those TPAs have zero to do with who the player plays for. Obviously though in current environment there’s every chance they are rorted and I see argument to price them. Or alternatively they are lumped together and shown by team like they have done somewhat now.

Everything, no wiggle room. If this were to ever happen and since the ARLC is showing their salaries, why bother hiding any of it, what would be the purpose of that other then making some sort of grey area and therefore doubt and confusion?

Total transparency. White is white and black is black. We don't want grey. When I catch my flounder I like to fry it.
