Rumours and Stuff

Look this might be a little out of the box, but I would make a massive play for Joseph Suaalii from the Roosters. He is on the market after this year having a Player Options in his favour from 2023 onwards. He is an out and out superstar waiting to happen and a future fullback that will be stuck behind Tedesco for at least 3-5 years from now.

He is best mates with Penisini and we don't have a game breaking superstar like 99% of all the premiership sides tend to do. That game breaker is our missing ingredient at the moment and has been since our Semi and Hayne days. We will struggle against the best teams until we can get a player that can consistently turn a game at the blink of and eye.

We can offer Suaalii the fullback position in a season or two at most or even immediately if that were the only way we could persuade him to come across. Would it piss off our current captain? Sure might do, but who gives a toss. Look what the Roosters did with Pearce and Cronk. They make the tough decisions and win premierships. Remember, Cronk was a gamble too when he came to the Roosters. He was on the decline and not as affective as he had once been, but they took the punt and it worked for 2 premierships trophies.

What we have here is a similar situation but in reverse. Suaalii is basically unproven at NRL level and we would be willing to move a seasoned performer either to a different position or punt him all together to accommodate the rookie. I say we take a very calculated gamble and do it. We have to find an X factor. Suaalii is that and in 2 or 3 years he could be the next Turbo. We have nothing like him at our club with the same type of potential and won't anytime soon. The Roosters have so many match winners. They couldn't possibly compete if we offered Suaalii around $1m.

Remember, he wouldn't be getting a $1m to go to a sh*t club, but to move to another top 4-6 roster and play with one of his best mates and move much closer to family and friends. It is more then doable if we made the right moves and money offer. It is just a matter of if our club can think big or just keep going along as it always has and hope that these current quality but mostly average backs can do the job.

Think about it.
1. Suaalii
2. Dunster
3. Penisini
4. Blake
5. Russell
6. Brown
7. Moses

Has a much more lethal look about it.

If we did get Suaalii he wouldn't be playing fullback he'll build-up to it. No point chucking him there and wearing him out. Start him in the centres first imo. Simonsson is also going to be good he just needs time.
1. Gutho 2.Blake 3.Suaalii 4.Penisini 5.Simonsson 6.D.Brown 7.Moses

most would agree and it's not really a gamble but you're assuming we have cap space and I reckon he'd cost a shit load, not to mention we'd have to outbid uncle Nick and his 'methods"

We have plenty of vacancies if we chose not to renew a few contracts. Like I said around $1m. Uncle Nick couldn't offer much more then that really and he can't offer him the fullback position for at least 3 years or more. Remember Tedesco is their only $1m player. I doubt that he would offer a rookie equal or more then that and upset all the other superstars in their squad.

We would have a good chance at the very least. We just have to show the kid a lot of love and be very persuasive. That would be the hardest part not the money. Do we have the people that can pull it off? Salesmen, like Gould, Robinson, Bennett or even Sheens if he was at a strong club. No one at our club has clout to make a serious difference with the superstar players I don't think. Shoot I don't even think they even think like this. They look for bargains or juniors that see parra as a good development club that can give them a good foundation and opportunity until a better option or payday comes along.

OK. So even if the Roosters could somehow not manage to pay him enough, do you reckon there'd be no other competitive bidders?

I'd say like Marata with better footwork and more likely to break the line.... Better? I think so a little. Not heap but yes a little. Similar style.
He's also about 12kg lighter (94kgs), so it also depends which way you see the style of play moving over the next few years. Might be a centre candidate.

surely if we made this happen, he replaces Gutho who we just re-signed for 3 years,

I think we will prioritize an edge player first, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him at the Eels, just can't see it logistically happening

Well this is why we are literally a development club. If you don't like following the underdogs you should pick another club.

Not any that are as good a team as us and can offer him fullback position, money and close to home with family and friends. We offer more then any other current team could.
