Panthers have a young gun fullback coming thru. Turuva I think his name is. We should scope him out.

I don't know of him Hindy. Is he in the potential superstar class like a Suaalii? The reason I ask is because, we already have Gutho and Russell, so unless he is the sort of player that most keen judges see as developing into a better player then either of them, then it wouldn't be prudent to bring him in and unsettle the apple cart. Not unless of course he can play centre or wing very well and he sees our club as a better opportunity to crack a NRL berth sooner.

Like I said, I don't know, but what I think we should be looking for is an out and out superstar in the making that is odds on to becoming a better player then anyone we have currently at our club. A real weapon that turns games at the blink of an eye. We don't have anyone of this mould at the moment in any grade at the club.

With a bit of luck we could jag a premiership, but I don't think so. I feel we will be running on empty again when the semis come around and probably only have one or two decent performances then out we go again. Our coach and his in ability to expand our game further will see to that.

Just my opinion, but we have a player like that already - Penisini.

But he's only a bub, so we can expect some inconstency.

But he is a special talent.

Or maybe they just couldnt nurture the talent? Maybe those merkins would never have amounted to anything had they not gone to melbourne

Maybe in Papenhuyzen's case due to his small frame and lack of physical development at the time and Bellamy finally got him to a point where he was fit enough, strong enough and mentally strong and mature enough to endure the rigors of the NRL. Some players need that extra time for their bodies to develop and need the right nurturing to get there.

But in JAC and Marika Koroibete cases no freakin way. When I used to watch both these guys play at the Tigers they were on fire with the limited opportunities the Tigers gave them. I would have been stoked if we had the nous to sign either of them. They both had super speed and were fantastic finishers and held their own defensively. Doing that in a sh*t team like the tigers as a winger is no easy feat and why an astute coach like Bellamy could see the tremendous value in them and probably why he also took a punt on Papenhuyzen even though he wasn't an NRL player at the time. Speed, speed, speed and the skills of a touch footy player.

I keep saying it we need to be developing more players with blinding speed. We seem to have forgotten about this attribute, which is probably even more important then pure power. Even the best frontrowers are very fast over a 10-20m distance. That fast leg drive is power. Of course size and mass is important, but speed is vital too. We have gotten a little quicker with Russell and Penisini, but still don't have that blinding speed some other teams have.

My understanding is Tigers let go of Papenhuyzen because they were banking on retaining Tedesco.
How could they keep them cheap when the Storm wanted them? More to the point, why would the Storm want them if they weren't massively talented?
Tigers could of kept JAC and Papemhuzen for relatively cheap and in the system. They where unable to independently identify the talent.

Maybe you should offer the club your services. Send them your CV.

Maybe you should say something half worth listening to GIF boy. On second thoughts don't bother Giffy you bore the crap out of me. At least Pou with all his faults can be interesting or amusing. You, well...queue the GIF's Giffy, we all know that's all you got.

Yes he is the best we have, but I don't know if he will ever be in the class of a Tedesco or Turbo which is what I think Suaalii has the potential to become and therefore if we could have both we would have one hell of a one-two strike in our backline. You know like the best teams do that win premierships.

I dont think it matters who we bring to our club if we persist in playing our current style that just dosent seem able to take us to the next level.
Fitzbibbon seems to have The Sharks playing a pretty good brand of footy. Whos to say its sustainable, but 8 years of the same game plan isnt ideal and if a premership was jagged due to unique circumstances it would be unlikely that style could create a dynasty. I keep reading that players make coaches. Some probably do but more often coaches make players. Its why Gibson, Bellamy and Bennett have had so much success. They can recognise whats required be it a junior or a more senior player they could develop not just to be tougher and willing but skill wise. Guys who can pound the line continually are a dime a dozen and its why we shop in the bargain basement aisle. I also wonder why there appears little loyalty to our club now days or a desire to join our Eels given how many we have been unsuccessfully linked to. I really hope this is our year and our strategy is to build better D&A different to past seasons. Ill be there watching regardless.

I don't think Suaalii is going to get to the same level at Turbo or Teddy. He will chase the $$$ to Union.

Russell could be our next number 1. He looks like a genuine footy player in the limited times I've seen him.

I would have loved to have Fitzgibbon as our coach. He will be at the Sharks for 10+ years now.

I can't see BA being here passed next year and Suaalii is available now, so it is now that we need to move on him if we ever want to sign him not after 2023 when he will be signed up for God knows how long by either the Roosters or someone else like the Dogs who won't be scared to make room for him somehow.

Well he is on around $1.5m over 3 years. He could be persuaded to break the final year of his contract if we could offer him say $700K-800K a season and a bigger higher profile club to come to if we thought he was the best man for the job at that point.

I don't see him building a team at the Sharks for 2 years then skipping out in year 3. He will get a pay bump before leaving

I watched Briton Nikora last night for the Sharks. He seems a little light for a backrower. I’d sediment let go for the Papali’i lookalike with the Ned Kelly beard.

Probably not, but we just don't know what and how things will be panning out at the end of 2023. Who knows at that point where either clubs is and what Fitzy considers the better option.

Yes he is and why I'm not all that fussed on him besides him going backwards last year, but I suppose he has potential to be decent. But there are a dime a dozen of those types.

The Eels have moved to pursue Sharks second-rower Briton Nikora, while Jack Bird is expected to shun interest from the Dolphins to re-sign with the Dragons.

The Tigers have reportedly poached Manly young gun Sione Fainu from the Sea Eagles on a two and a half year deal effective immediately.

The Broncos are reportedly open to offering off-contract utility Billy Walters an extension following his strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, Dragons officials are reportedly confident of retaining star backrower Jack Bird after the Eels pulled their offer.
