So Rein for another year, these super young back ups that we have waiting in the wings can’t be rated all that highly if Rein is here for another year.
With Rankin likey to retire and go full time with the club, who is the old guy in reggies to yell at the kids ? You never amaze me on how you can put a negative spin on everything.

Beginning of the year basically no one here (think I did post something suggesting we should) wanted to keep Matterson (and nothing is confirmed yet), couple of weeks of good form and he is now a must keep…….

Gee we are lucky we don’t get to change the board every year or so …..

Anyhow yes I am concerned we are loosing forward experience and depth on the edge (not in particular the players), however until we have finalised our 2023 squad and played half season we don’t know what the right path is……..

additionally the potential signing of the panthers forward does suggest the club is following same path it has followed over the last few years successfully, signing players we can develop to perform above their contract….while also looking for an experienced forward…
No point if we lose them

And you never cease to amaze me how you can put a positive spin on everything 🥸

I reckon the club is actually happy enough to see Matto go elsewhere to be honest.
If not, they would have probably upped their offer and tried to keep him which by all accounts, they didn't.
And I am sure there are reasons for this, most of which we mere mortals would not be told about.

My mail is that the focus is on our 3, 6 & 7 and getting all 3 of them locked up with 1, 8 & 10.

So for '23 and into 2024 without buying anyone of note, we would have:
1. Gutho
2. Sivo
3. Penisini
4. Blake
5. Simonsson/Russell/Dunster
6. Drown
7. Moses
8. RCG
9. Hodgson
10. Parlo
11. Lane
12. Cartwright
13. Nrown

14. Hands
15. Greig
16. Hopgood
17. Rodwell
18. Makatoa
19. El-Zakhem
20. Moretti
21. Yates

And my mail is that we are still looking around hard to buy an experienced edge forward or 2.
Jack Hetherington, not an edge forward though

Those are just the negative merkins.

Agreed I expect us to hold onto both our starting halves. If we don't it would be a massive failure by our clubs retention committee and I would expect heads to roll immediately seeing it would put us back 5-10 years at least.

It's not hyperbole either. When was the last time we had a halves combination that is as good as these two. I would argue we need to go all the way back to Sterlo and Kenny. In 2-3 years if Brown keeps improving the way he is he will be as good as Munster and if Moses stays roughly where he is then we would have one hell of a pair to build around.

If we lost either, then I don't expect us to just replace him with a like for like. I mean it has taken us 30 odd years to get the quality of these two. So it isn't going to be an easy fix. Recruiting will be much easier too if we kept both. Players want to play with the best halves. We have two of the very best right now and I expect our club to make sure we don't lose them.

No Excuses!

Both those teams are below us on the ladder. They aren't the Storm or the Panthers. We are good enough to finish anywhere between third and sixth. Less than sixth is an underachievement and higher than third is overachievement. Finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th is neither under- or overachievement. Neither was our sixth place finish last year. We finished where we deserved. If Matterson and Drown had been in better form last year we might've deserved to finish higher but we didn't. Both merkins had to sort their shit out, whether toilet sex or concussion issues. Or both.

Sixth is a contender.

We're lacking whatever has made our premiership drought the longest in the game. I think we are probably lacking less of it than we once were but it's been a long time since we were a rugby league superpower. We might've made the finals three years in a row, but we only made the finals once in the nine years before that. Obviously there was a big change in 2019 but I'm not going to be so quick as to say they've completely turned the club around. Three blokes picked in Origin game 1 (genuine Origin selections, not the Mickey Mouse Origin series of 2020) is a good start.

The Sharks and Roosters should have considered it a failure because they had much better teams than us.

Would you say we are balls deep in this competition?

Oh well can’t keep them all………..

Imagine if we hadn’t if rushed out and re-signed Bea?? We could of lost everyone!!!

Development club. I'm so proud we unearthed this kid, turn him into an origin player and then sent him on his way in his peak years. Great work from the coaching staff.
Let's hope D.Brown can land himself a big fat juicy contract elsewhere. He has been developed now and its time to go.
