Just a bit of bad luck.It was just one of those games.
Just a bit of bad luck.It was just one of those games.
I’m not even trying to suggest it, I’m stating it outright. There is a lot of work required in the lead up to a final ‘rubber stamp’ decision on something as massive as offering a multimillion dollar contract to a bloke who might not have even finished high school. Every contract is a risk, and the biggest player contracts represent the biggest risk.Seriously? You're trying to suggest that the board has a substantial role in player recruitment?
It happens. Bellamy picked Russell Aitken at hooker in a grand final and they lost 40-0. Maybe he should’ve picked somebody else?Just a bit of bad luck.
Yeah you can’t help bad luck.It happens. Bellamy picked Russell Aitken at hooker in a grand final and they lost 40-0. Maybe he should’ve picked somebody else?
I’m sure he’s very busy, and they would trust his advice to an extent.FFS O'Neill must be the least trusted head of football in history. Which begs the question why we're paying him anything, much less hundreds of thousands of dollars.
That’s right. Look at the Tigers.Yeah you can’t help bad luck.
Well I’d say the board’s job is to make decisions while the club’s employees do the work of carrying out those decisions and collecting information to support the decision making process.Anyone arguing that the board has a role in recruitment want to quantify it? I think it's less than 10% responsibility and not worth mentioning, much less crediting them. You guys think it's more? How much?
What do you see as overs for Matterson? On current form he is worth at least $700k. There are forwards on $1M+. Add leadership tax and Matterson is worth a lot of money at his best. Just have to decide how much less than his maximum he is worth due to age and injury risk. Its confusing cause we just don't pay overs for players yet here we are. A guy with a lot of head knocks who has been underwhelming and we are going away from our rules.
4yr contract, bigger dollars. We are balls deep here.
You keep worrying about the Tigers, I’ll worry about the Eels on the Eels forum. That’s right. Look at the Tigers.
I am thinking that’s where may he start his career for us at first (not meaning top 13) at first.Hopgood might be an effective edge forward.
Every single one of those players (except possibly the one returning to NZ) would have come back to allow us to make a counter offer. Do you really think they’d rather play at Canterbury or Wests? We might’ve upped our offer in some cases but we stuck to our guns and refused to pay over our valuation of the player. Obviously our top offer was still less than what the Tigers or Dogs were prepared to pay.I'll be honest in how I reckon a lot of this went down.
Marata,Papali'i and Mahoney we just didn't think would get such big offers. Eve I would ofnthought 400k for Marata and Papali'i gets them. Mahoney I had a conversation with a mate how we have to be carefull not to pay him to much as had a lot of flaws and about 500k would be limit. Kafusi and Stone I doubt the club cared about enough.
But reality is we lost then all. Not expecting it. I feel we got a bit desperate and raced out and signed Hodgson and now are prepared to pay overs for Matterson. I just hope we don't do the same for Frizzel as far as overs go.
If people on here think our whole recruitment strategy has been well thought out and gone to plan they are off heads. And the club knows if they lost Matterson it would be a disaster.
All that said aslong as we keep Dylan and Moses it's enough to build around. Let's hope they are extending them before Nov 1. If not it could be catastrophic
Pretty dubious 2021 as well without the new recruits. His entire career he was dubbed as a halfback in a front rowers body. Must have a great feel for the game and his team is doing extremely well after a dubious start to the season.
Yep, Cartwright would be well aware he still isn’t far away from the rugby league scrap heap. Not gunna lie, I’m a bit bamboozled by your position. Coaches challenge players and players back themselves to reach benchmarks. Unsure why Carty is that special guy who should be allowed to play his way, when the rest if the squad has to fit into a game plan. Somehow in your eyes the player is beyond criticism and the coach or recruitment have NFI.
We might not be the ones waiting.Where have I said we don’t value them. All I said was hopefully we’re in talks with them about extending. Do we really want to wait till November 1?
With Will Smith defending in the middle instead of Stone we might not have even been close at the 79th minute. And there was nothing wrong with Stone’s handling the week before. It was just one of those games.
$1M+ easyYup so in 2024,he might be worth more than 800k
Yeah it was pretty unlucky that our last hooker standing was played in the last round nothing game that every other first pick was rested from.Just a bit of bad luck.

It is up to each club to decide how much the player is worth to them.No one in the administration at the club is making decisions on retention of in demand players at the club. The only people making the decisions in that instance is the player and the people they're involved with. The only decision to be made is which club they're playing for, not the other way around.
